Chapter 1

Tobias Jackson

"TOBIAS JACKSON TO THE PRINCIPLE'S OFFICE!" Then the speaker shut off.

"Good luck Jackson." Alaska whispered to me quietly as I pushed my chair out, ready to leave. As soon as I stood up I did a bow, my arm thrown in front, my face thrown forward, which got a loud round of applause as I started strutting to the doorway.

"If I don't come back, I want all of my things given to Alaska Valdez, Marty Pez, and Peyton Listern." Then, in a dramatic fashion, I ran into the hallway.

Being a sophomore was kinda really fun, especially since I had Alaska with me. Both Alaska and I shared a birthday and have known each other since birth, literally. She was very built for a 16 year old, only a few inches smaller than me, with long auburn hair trailing down to below her ribs, and these brown eyes that could burn you alive. To sum up Alaska and I's schooling it would be quite simply stated that we were every teachers worst nightmare. Alaska and I had done everything together, gone to Camp, gone to detention, had been forced to mop the stairs, everything. We were so close that it hurt my chest just to be close to her. Of course, like in every high school drama show that had ever existed, Alaska was putting me into the friend zone. But you know, if Ron Stoppable could get out of the friend zone so could I.

While I was thinking to myself while walking past the rows of lockers I ran straight into Ben Tick who just happened to be the biggest bully in school.

"Watch it punk." He called to me through gritted teeth, his meaty fists clenched at his sides.

"Well, you walked into me soooo." He was about 3 inches smaller than me so if we were to fight, I may have had a slight advantage. Of course, being 6'3" was an advantage to anyone who wasn't trained to fight, but for me it was just another tool to use because being trained to actually fight in a battle was a little bit more helpful than height at this point.

"Watch it Jackson." Ben growled as his boorish eyes continued to try and burn holes in my face.

"Why, what ya gunna do?" I knew I had walked straight into that one. The next thing I knew his fist was flying, but instead of connecting with a handsome face it flew into a metal locker instead.

"YOU LITTLE-"

"Hey, watch your language–don't forget that there are younger ears around here." I said as I gave a cheeky grin before turning around the corner, my shoes soundlessly moving through the hall.

"Yo Jackson, your right. There are little ears. Now apologize for what you did and maybe little ears won't have to hear what I have to say."

"You wouldn't dare, you could try but you would fail. The only thing you manage to do right is making the pregnancy checks be a positive." That made his face go a fire truck red, either in rage or in embarrassment. That, I would not know.

"You know Jackson, I could just take out your apology from your friends. Or you know what, I have something even better. I could make your family apologize for you! I can always have little Bobby and Sanya take care of that for me with Colten and Sage, or maybe I could even get a bigger one from all ya cousins!"

"Okay, first thing, you really need to touch up on your grammar. Second thing, if you try to touch my family I will kill you." I said through gritted teeth that were thankfully hidden from Ben's view.

"You, Tobias Jackson, wouldn't hurt a fly." He then let out a laugh and somehow in those few seconds all of his goon friends had appeared and now had me fully surrounded. Funny, I thought to myself as I stuck my hands in my pockets. They think that they have something over me just because they have six on one. That thought made a laugh emerge from my mouth, just loud enough that the goon nearest to me heard. You could practically see the steam coming from his ears.

"Now, apologize. Or else." Ben said as he gave me a toothy sneer and then he did something stupid. He charged. I of course, not really wanting to have blood on my hands, side stepped and stuck my leg out. His meaty ankles contacted and immediately he face planted. Any one who was lingering in the halls went absolutely silent at the sight. I, the lovely Tobias Jackson, had just managed to overpower Ben Tick without even really moving a muscle.

"You little git!" He yelled defiantly as he pushed himself off of the ground and came running towards me once again.

"ENOUGH!" A big booming voice said from behind us. It just so happened to be Mr. Powell, a son of Athena, aka my scary principle half-uncle. The air around me seemed to thicken under his steady glare, and after a few seconds I remembered that I had to breath.

"Tobias, you had a meeting with me and now with this disruption I have to deal with Mr. Tick also. Gods help us all." He mumbled the last part under his breath as he led me and Ben to the office by our elbows.

"Tobias, go see Mrs. Jonast. Ben, you come with me."

Ben gave me a final death glare before following my tall principal into his office.

"Oh Mrs. Jonast!" I called as I leaned into her office cubical.

"Tobias! Come here!" Mrs. Jonast was this sweet, old 50 year old woman with aging gray hair and a bright smile surrounded by fine little wrinkles.

"What did you need?" I asked as I slid into the leather easy chair in front of her oak desk.

"Well, I just wanted to let you know that you, Colten, Sage, Callie, and now Miles will all be taken Goode care of. Hehe, see what I did there?" There were crinkles in the corner of her blue eyes while she let out her soft laughs.

"Thank you, Mrs. Jonast. Also, can you keep track of Alaska, and her brother, and the Grace's, Zhang's, Stoll's and Di'Angelo's too? Please?" She smiled sweetly upon me and nodded her head.

"Already done, Tobias. Now you have a good one, and also," she said as her voice lowered to a whisper, "good luck with Alaska." She finished with a wink as I turned around walking to the door, trying to hide that fact that I was blushing furiously.

A few minutes later I finally came back to my classroom. My teacher had his back turned as he wrote something on the board but he instantly turned around as someone from the back row shouted, "HE'S NOT DEAD!" People silently cheered as I walked in, my hands up to try and settle them down.

"Silence my people, for I am back safe and sound!" I said as I grinned at them all. I slyly slid into my seat next to Alaska, the heat of the room finally hitting me.

"Why were you gone for so long? I was starting to get worried that Mrs. Jonast murdered you or something." Alaska was so pretty when she worried.

"Trouble in the hall, all good now."

"You didn't hurt anyone, did ya?" She asked as she looked into my eyes, her hand slowly wrapping around my hand underneath the low table. Her hand felt rather warm, and I could feel the waves of heat rolling off of her skin.

"I didn't hurt anyone Alaska don't worry. And calm down, don't want you bursting into flames or anything."

She looked at me for a moment, her eyes wide, before she reached for her bottle and took a swig. Since she was a daughter of Leo and Francesca Valdez she was bound to have fire powers, and, of course, as a relative of Hermes, she could steal pretty well. She usually stole tiny things from the teachers, like pencils and things a like, until one day Mr. Brooks noticed his desk was gone. Of course no normal person understood how Alaska had done it, but I knew and to me that is all that mattered.

"You all good?" I whispered into her ear as I bumped my knee against hers.

"I'm fine Jackson. Gods." She said as she used her left hand to brush a piece of her auburn hair out of her eyes. I squeezed her hand to see if in fact she was telling the truth, but now the close proximity was literally burning. The temperature to her skin had gone up again, her skin beginning to smolder slowly.

"Here, let me help." I then, using that powers that had been passed down through the generations, turned my hand ice cold, trying desperately to calm Alaska down before she burnt down out entire science room.

"Thanks Jackson. I owe you." She said as she sent me a small smile, her lips curling slighlty at the ends, before she turned her head to the black board.

"You know Alaska, I know how you could repay the favor." I said as I mustered up all the courage I could.

"How?" She said sarcastically as she rolled her eyes towards the sky. The bell made a large ring, notifying us that school had finally ended.

"Well, will you go out with me on Saturday?" I asked as I looked into her dark eyes, the eyes that were always full of such mischief. She blushed the tiniest bit, her bronze skin turning rosy, before she answered.

"Of course Jackson, it only took you sixteen years to ask me that." Then, to my surprise, she kissed me on the cheek, her lips soft against my skin, before she ran out of the classroom. I stood up, my legs shakily carrying me towards the door, before I realized something–I had a date with the Alaska Valdez. The prettiest girl ever to be seen.

While Alaska and I walked down the side walk to Goode Elementary to go pick up our siblings and cousins, she linked her arm with mine.

"So Alaska, are we going as friends, or as you know." I felt my cheeks go bright red, my face feeling as if I were going to burst into flames. Then I realized something. Alaska might actually!

"Hmmm, what do you think?" Alaska asked as she pulled on my arm, her mouth suddenly finding my own. Her lips were soft against mine, warm to the point of comfort, and they tasted like a mixture between cinnamon and cherries.

"Um." I said stupidly as she pulled away, her lips suddenly in a large smile.

"C'mon Jackson." She said before pulling my arm to get me to walk with her again.

When we arrived our family was already there, waiting on the sidewalk with their arms crossed. Colten, who was a freshman, was standing in a circle with Erika Di'Angelo, Elsie Stoll, Tess Grace, and Max Valdez. Then Sage, who was in 7th grade, was with Colin Di'Angelo and Aaron Stoll talking about something that happened in their algebra class. Then in 6th grade was Jase Grace, and Marilee Zhang who were standing together stoically. Callie, who was hanging with Acacia Di'Angelo and Evan Zhang, was in 3rd grade talking about something that had to do with cupcakes and frosting.

"Where were you!" Callie cried as she ran up to me crushing me in a bear hug.

"Sorry sis, principle's." I said as I gave my little sister a soft hug before gently pushing her away towards her friends.

"Ooo Tobias, mom won't be happy at all." Colten smirked as he rolled his pointer finger over his other while saying tsk tsk tsk.

"Ya, I know. I can always live with Leyna though." I said as I beamed triumphantly, although the triumph I had disappeared as Colin interrupted.

"Ya no. We already get enough of you having you as a next door neighbor. Why don't you go live with Alaska, huh?" Against my own will, I could feel my face turning beet red. Then, as usual, Alaska came to my rescue.

"I already get enough of him at school and every free time I have. If any Jackson was to move in I feel Sage should come, or maybe even Callie. Max, wouldn't you enjoy Sage living with us?"

Now Max was the one blushing.

"I think that I should just take Zoë then all problems would be solved!" Max said as he gave a cheeky grin before he went running down the sidewalk.

"Ugh, here we go again." Tess muttered through a sigh as she began trudging behind him.

Since all of our parents were close friends, and all demigods, they decided to make all of our lives easier by only setting up one large barrier instead of multiple ones so they all decided to move into these huge houses that were all on the same block. The houses order went Amanda and Connor's, Nico and Leyna's, my house, Francesca and Leo's, Piper and Jason's, and then finally Hazel and Frank's. The best part of that setup was that Alaska's window was just across from mine so whenever we needed to talk, we just needed to slide that glass up and scream for the other to answer back.

When we arrived on our block we first dropped off Marilee and Evan at their house. All six of the houses looked very similar, only coloration as the main difference. After dropping of the Zhang's we dropped off Tess and Jase, then Elsie and Aaron. Then we dropped off Erika, Colin and Acacia. Erika looked sad to go as she said goodbye to Max, and Colin looked kind of down leaving Sage. Then my siblings and I, including Alaska and Max, walked up to the Valdez household.

"Bye Tobias, see you tomorrow." She walked over and hugged me briefly, then whispered in my ear, "I will see you tonight?" I gave a curt nod, and she and Max walked off down the drive.

When I entered the door I was suddenly bombarded by one of the scariest beings on the planet. That being being my mother.

"Tobias was sent to the Principal's again!" Colten cried out as he ran behind my dad.

"You were what now?" My mom said, folding her arms in front of her.

"Um ya, Mrs. Jonast just wanted to tell me all of us were being watched over and stuff." I mumbled as I rubbed my elbow awkwardly.

"Oh, well that's good then." Then my mom stalked off with Zoë in her arms.

"TOBIAS HAS A DATE DADDY!" Callie cried out as her black curly hair bounced against her shoulders as she ran towards my father.

"Tobias has a wha?" My dad called out as he turned around, grabbing Callie in a fireman's lift making her squeal with joy.

"Can't I ever have something that is secret? I mean how the Hades did you even know!" I said as I clenched my fists at my sides, the blush arriving just on time.

Sage smiled cheekily.

"I saw Alaska kiss you, and then I told Callie." Sage said with a smirk before joining Callie behind my dad. Sage was actually pretty smart because she knew that I would chase her.

"I will get you Sage!" I screamed as I ran towards my dad.

"Dad!" Sage cried out as my hands barely missed her curling blonde hair.

"Tobias calm down!" My dad yelled out as I began to clench my fists again.

I tried to breath, tried to get this anger out of me, but I just couldn't do it. As Leyna always would say, "once ya mess with the sea, it will take a whole heck of a lot to calm it once more." When it came down to words my aunt did know a thing or too. For the first time in a while I saw something flash in Sage's eyes. That sort of fear she only got when she was actually scared. I only understood why when I looked down at my hand.

"Tobias, drop the ice." My dad said as he set Callie on the ground, his eyes now harder than they had been before. In my hand, just as he had said, was a huge icicle.

"Fine." I said through gritted teeth as I let the ice melt to water and as soon as the water evaporated I left the scene and headed up the marble stairs as fast as I could. When I reached my room I slammed the door, satisfied when I heard a loud cry. I threw myself onto my sliver and blue comforter as I looked out my window, the shades still left open from where I had set them in the morning. I was shocked by what I saw outside of the frame.

Out my window directly across from it was the Alaska's. She looked as though she too forgot to shut her blinds because she was in the middle of changing and her window was wide open for anyone to see. She had her black tank top off, revealing a silvery-blue bra that was underneath, and under that her bronze skin glowed in the dim lighting. Then, dangling from her lips, was a cigarette that let off an eery glow. Since she was fire proof the smoke had no effect on her so she could smoke as long as she wanted and wouldn't even have a scratch on her lungs. What surprised me the most wasn't her half clothed, nor the cigarette, but it was the fact that she was singing. After a few moments of looking at her I realized I was staring. She was perfectly tanned, that natural coloration of her always drawing in the wandering eyes, and her long, dark hair hung loose above her waist. Her torso revealed showed off her perfect having curves that were in just the right places, and that flat pack of hers that could always take even the nastiest of punches. She was just beautiful, that was the only way to describe her. And her voice–dang. She was singing House of Gold by Twenty One Pilots and you would've sworn she was a daughter of Apollo just by hearing the sweetness of her tone. After a few minutes of her standing there she changed into a Ac/DC shirt and finally looked over my way. I pretended to be looking at my bookshelf, the redness biting at my neck, and when she yelled to me I nearly jumped. Well, I actually did.

"Hey Tobias!" She yelled as she smiled my way, her hands already tying up her long locks.

"Hey Alaska, you know you should sing more often. You have a beautiful voice." Her face went a deep crimson color as she ran over to the window.

"Hey, can you come over? Like, right now?" She gave me another smile as she waited for my response.

"Let me ask, be right back." I said as I ran out of my ran down the stairs and mumbled, just loudly enough for my mom to hear, "Going to Alaska's," and then ran out the door, not wasting any seconds, as I arrived at her front door.

I rang the doorbell and was greeted by Alaska's smiling face.

"C'mon!" She whispered, pulling my arm leading me to the grand stairs. She pulled me up the stairs and didn't miss a beat even when I nearly tripped on one of the stairs. When we got to her bedroom she flopped onto her bed pulling me next to her so I too was left staring at the dark ceiling.

"You know Alaska, you really need to learn to shut your blinds." I said a loud and without even looking I knew that she was blushing furiously.

"Whoops. Hey, at least was it a good view?" She said as she raised her eyebrows, a smirk on her face as she poked me in the side.

"Why of course." She smirked once more before she rolled on her side. She propped her head up on her hand as though she were contemplating something, and before I knew it she was pulling my face towards hers, soon leading us to be nose to nose.

"Want another look?" She breathed as she gave me an innocent look before pressing her forehead to my own.

"Maybe tonight." I breathed out before she pressed her lips to mine, that air that was between us ceasing to exist.

"Okay, whatever you say." Alaska said as she lowered her head, quickly untying her hair before laying her head on my chest, breathing ever so lightly as she laid her hand besides her head.

"I love you Tobias Jackson."

"I love you too Alaska Valdez. Very, very much."
