la danse des étoiles

by stellariums

Lucy dances across the stars each evening, a river of blue and gold churning around her and the constellations speckled across her skin. Gold and silver sing at her hips, both cool and smooth to the touch, and it's with moonlight and a cradle of stars carefully woven in her hair that she calls the galaxies to her side and continues her performance beneath their protection.

There was once time when she feared the sun. As a child, her servants worried that her pale skin may be cursed if she spent too long beneath it in summer. The daughter of the moon and stars was meant to be perfection, a goddess of beauty and grace, and even the slightest hair out of place was too much for them. Their sheltering within a maze of closed doors and curtains starved her from the light she needed desperately for the longest time.

Natsu changed that, though.

He's a fireball of energy, a force of nature to be reckoned with, the embodiment of the sun itself. Heat rolls off him in waves and his smile is enough to melt her when he turns to her, eyes dark as coal and stoking the flames within her heart. Natsu is the summer she missed as a child, the warmth and love she was deprived of for so long, and now that the sun's crashing down all around her she relishes it. It scorches at her tongue and her shoulders and on the crown of her hair, and though her past self might have turned to run she stands her ground, taking it all in with open arms and a desire for more.

It's not a curse but rather a blessing, to be able to hold the sun between your hands and not be burned, to be welcomed into its arms wholeheartedly and be loved so fiercely.

Their first kiss is rushed and awkward, because Natsu's Natsu and Lucy's been denied the sun for far too long that she's so eager but unsure of how to go about it. But it's given and taken with the gleeful knowledge that though it's the first of its kind, neither intend it to be the last. Lucy's been done with being a pretty doll for a long time, but she finds that even as messy and clumsy this is, it's absolutely perfect and she couldn't be more grateful. They're so happy.

Deliriously giddy and drunk on happiness, she laughs as they pull away. Natsu is blushing, head ducked in uncharacteristic embarrassment as a sheepish and radiant smile spreads across his lips. Their hearts beat as one inches apart, and Lucy doesn't think she's felt this alive or overjoyed since the day Natsu brought her to Fairy Tail.

She doesn't even remember the exact moment she fell in love with this stupid, wonderful boy or how long she's been waiting for this, but good god was every moment worth the wait. The summer sun is bright over their heads, and they form glowing coronas around their heads where pink and gold meet and entwine.

The cradle of stars collapses and crumbles, giving way to something new and beautiful. A crown of daisies finds itself in its place, haphazard and askew but blooming beneath the full sun. Lucy dances across the stars each evening and each morning, the moon in the tangles of her hair, the stars dappled across her skin, and the sun holding her hands, lovingly keeping her close and filling her with warmth.
