the very essence of love >>kailette

Because everyone wants to be remembered.

They want memories of themselves engraved into the hearts and minds of everyone around them. It's the arrogance and vanity that all man possesses. The urgent feeling to be loved and wanted, to be such an important factor that leaving is not an option and fear is no longer a hinderance.

When she smiles at Kairi, one wiry leg inside the ship, puffy lips between pearly teeth. Olette's eager to leave, Kairi knows, with her.

And while the sky is strato blue, ocean still because the winds are calm, Kairi is still unsure.

She's tethered to the island. She grips her bag with fear.

She doesn't want them to have that feeling. The same one she had... That everything is being sucked into an inner void, even though everyone, Sora and Riku, are going away. If she leaves…

But, and when Kairi looks into Olette's green eyes that are steeped with more color than his, and her hair more saturated than the others, she remembers that they didn't leave on purpose. When she steps aboard the luminescent orange gummi ship and ignores the curious glares from Donald and Goofy, and just focuses on Olette's hand over hers, just Olette, nothing else, Kairi knows her leave isn't purposely either.

Because in this case, memories aren't enough.
