AN: Yay! Another new story; this one is DARK! I will change the rating later, but not just yet. Please review!
It's just past ten in the evening, and you lay on the couch, under a blanket. Your head on your husband's lap as he gently guides his fingers through your hair. It has been a rough day; but not nearly as bad as some.
The news is horrifying, in the ten minutes it has been on-
the only thing that has been discussed is tragedy. And it has been a tragic day. Especially for the law enforcement community.
"Officer Katie Kass is believed to have been abducted from her-.."
"Turn it off." You whisper to Will, not wanting to hear anymore. "Please, Will, just turn it off."
Without a word, he grabs the remote control and switches the television off, allowing the room to grow dark. He does not say a word, but his hands continue to stoke your hair. He knows you all to well now, and knows you want to talk. You just do not know what to say.
Two minutes of silence later, the words escape your mouth. "She is the fourth one, Will." You swallow, fighting back tears. "The fourth police officer to be abducted." You shake your head because you know what comes next; you know her body will be found within the next seventy two hours. Officer Lindsay Thompson had been first, she had proudly served the Dallas Police Department for seven years; Officer Megan Maxwell was assigned to the patrol division of the Oklahoma City Police Department, Detective Emily Baker had disappeared two months ago, and tonight, Officer Katie Kass..
Their was not much profiling to be done on the victims, the media had already called it, had figured it out. All the victims were petite, white, with blonde hair..
And you knew it scared Will to death.
Because he knew if your team got the case, you would be dead center. And his arms gripped you tighter.
And as he held you, you closed your eyes and hoped for a miracle. That Officer Kass would be found alive; that this serial killer would be apprehended, and that the rash of police targeted murders would stop.
But you know that is just that, a miracle. Deep down you know Kass is still alive, if only barely, and you know you will not get to her in time. You have nothing to go on, you have not even been called in yet.
Yet. You know you will be, the nation is fuming that the FBI is not involved yet, and with Kass missing, you expect the buzz of your phone any minute.
And twenty minutes later, just as you have fallen asleep, your phone buzzes. Without opening your eyes, you reach over and grab it.
It's Hotch. There is an urgent case and you are needed. As you get out of bed, Will pulls you back and gently kisses you on the head.
Your cases are always dangerous, but both of you feel it this time.
You don't know why, but you go and kiss both of your babies more than once tonight. You hug your husband longer than normal, he hugs you tighter.
And you walk out the door; pushing the sinking feeling in your stomach away.
