Crash

"Stokes" Nick said when his cell phone rang.

He was at the hospital trying to interview a possible witness for his case but the witness had still not woken up from his medically induced coma so Nick was pacing the hallway waiting for his witness to awaken. Nick was tired, this was the third double he'd pulled in the last two weeks.

"Hi babe, what are you up too?" Nick asked when he had established that it was his wife Jackie on the phone.

"Turn around" Jackie instructed.

"What?" he asked.

"Turn around" she repeated.

He did and saw his wife and his little girl Jasmine standing there. He hung up the phone and walked towards them.

"What are you guys doing here?" he asked as concern filled his voice.

"We got in a very minor car accident."

His eyes grew wide.

"We are totally fine." She added quickly.

"What happened?" He asked.

"An elderly gentleman rear ended me, it's no big deal, it didn't even do that much damage to the car, it just made a small dent in the back."

"If it's not a big deal then why are you here, and where is Houston?"

"Houston is at my mom's, he's fine, he wasn't with us when we got in the wreck, and I just wanted to make totally sure that Jasmine is ok, you know how paranoid I am when it comes to the kids." She said with a smile.

"Is she alright?" He asked.

"She's fine, she even liked coming here because the doctor gave her a sucker." Jackie said with a laugh.

"Tucker" Jasmine said happily as she held up the green lollipop so Nick could see it.

"Did you get a sucker?" Nick asked her as he picked her up.

"Tucker" she repeated with a giggle.

"Can daddy have it?" Nick asked jokingly.

"No mine." Jasmine said immediately.

Nick and Jackie burst out laughing.

"You won't share with daddy?" Nick asked, not that he was really surprised.

"Mine" she repeated as she hid the sucker behind her back as if that would deter Nick from wanting it.

Nick laughed "You're too much Jazz." He said with a smile.

Jasmine's little face then turned serious

"Car boke" she said.

"Is the car broke?" He asked the little girl.

"Car boke" she said again.

"Well as long as you and mommy aren't broke I don't care."

"Mr. Stokes" A voice said from behind him.

Nick turned around and saw a nurse staring at him.

"Mr. Gonzales is awake now if you'd like to question him."

"Alright thank you" Nick said.

"I better go, but are you sure you are both alright?" He asked his wife.

"We're fine" she assured him.

He smiled "Alright, I'll see you when I get home." He said.

He handed Jasmine off to Jackie.

"Bye kiddo, I'll see you in a little bit." He told his daughter.

"Dada" she whined as he turned to leave.

"Sweetie I have to go back to work." He said.

"Dada" she said again as she extended his arms out to him.

"Come on Jazz, we'll go to the park." Jackie said trying to cheer her up.

That got Jasmine's attention immediately.

"Park" She said excitedly.

Then she turned to Nick, gave him a little wave and said "Bye bye dada."

Nick and Jackie both laughed.

Nick watched as Jackie and Jasmine left.

"I think Jackie got the better end of this deal, she gets to take Jasmine to the park and I have to work." He thought to himself.

Even though he was disappointed about not getting to go with them, he enjoyed getting to see them for a few minutes, it made his day a lot better, and even more importantly he was very grateful that both of them were ok after the minor accident.

He smiled happily to himself as he walked into the hospital room to interview his witness.

The End! I know this is a shorter story then most of my other ones but I figured I'd post a shorter one to tide you over until I get my bigger one done that I will post on Thanksgiving! I have a few other short ones to post, let me know if you'd like me too, or if you'd like to stick with the longer ones!
