Blue and Green

Blue and green paper lay scattered across the hardwood floor. Perfect squares lay all around while a lone figure sat in the middle. The sun was setting in the seemingly extensive amount of space, casting long shadows of rich orange and red across everything. Chocolate brown shone in the light, the boy's hair, strands of it falling unevenly over his amethyst eyes as they concentrated. Fold in half. Fold in half again. Now fold diagonally… Repeat. He was creating triangles. Smaller triangles into smaller, his thin fingers lithely tracing each edge to make the fold perfect.

A flash of red, blood, ammunition, the sound of breaking… was that him or the machine? Gunfire, beams shooting past, one after another, flash, flash, flash… blinding…

Target locked…

Fold, fold, crease. It was a pattern, with an outcome, predicted and unavoidable if executed correctly. Crease, fold, fold, flip, repeat. The green paper crumpled into a long triangle, he had only to pull, and it opened up. A bird, he had made a bird.

More shots, explosions ringing in his ears, a mechanical buzzing- Power low, condition unstable. Please return! A bright green flash, and something melting...

Bright green.

He would never see that colour again… at least… not in the same way…

He could hear his voice screaming, but was that his voice? It seemed so far away…

Fold, fold, crease, fold, crease, flip, repeat. They say that when you fold one thousand your wish comes true. Fold, fold, flip. How many would it take to get back what was gone? Crease, fold, repeat. Green and blue paper everywhere… yet the room was still empty.

The red machine never returned, nor did it's pilot.

All that was left were the metallic grey remains… grey everything was grey.

Green and blue birds lay scattered across the hardwood floor. Perfect cranes all around, while a lone figure sat in the middle. The sun had set in the cold and seemingly vast amount of space, casting no shadows, just dark. Bleak grey was all he could see of the once vibrant sea of green and blue.

Now everything was grey.
