Jadelyn West was a monster in a cage.

She opened the cracks, hoping someone would see. See through the slits in between the oaken planks that boxed her in. But eventually those cracks would get so big that they would become metal bars on a cage, the wood no longer able to trap the beast within. The cracks would be so big anyone who glanced at the cage would see the monster cowering inside.

She could not have that, for if they saw the whole monster, they might also see that it was a fraud.

So she let them steal glances, keep them frightened enough that they would never dare actually look, actually see, the beast.

Eventually people stopped looking and the crate shrunk to a box. A little card-board box, like the kind you would bring your brand new kitten home in.

Nothing special there.

But people don't realize a coiled snake isn't much bigger than that little kitten you bought.

They were safe though (people stopped looking, remember?)

That was, until a real little curious kitten came along. Naturally the box intrigued it, and… well, you know what they say. Curiosity killed the Cat.

AN: Another possible prologue. You know the drill; review if you like.

Peace ;)
