Vern Tessio's first kiss was all a joke. He was never much of an attractive kid. Or teenager for that matter. He was chubby, short, and not very popular. These things combined together really killed his chances with the girls. So, when Vern got his first kiss it wasn't out of love.
He was walking down the streets of Castle Rock and sitting in the park were a group of girls playing a game. Vern walked through the park because he liked to look at the pretty girls.
But just because they were pretty, doesn't mean they're nice. And they weren't. The game was truth or dare. And one of the girls was dared by her friends to kiss Vern. Of course, everyone else but the girl found this hilarious which is why they picked him. No one wanted to kiss someone like Vern.
The rules of the game were clear, however. No one refused a dare. So she got up, ran over to him, and kissed him quickly on the lips. Her friends stared in shock and disbelief. They couldn't fathom that she had actually went through with it.
After Vern came out of his daze, he realized that it didn't mean anything. But it was still a happy moment for him. He just couldn't believe that it had actually ever even happened for him.
