You're Worth It

Ross was strolling by the edge of Lake Verity, thinking over the events that had transpired in the past hour. He looked up at the sky; it was sunny, cloudless, and cheerful, the exact opposite of his own tumultuous emotions, Ross thought. He glanced down at the water's surface. Ripples were lazily lapping up against the shore. A cool breeze rustled the boughs of the trees surrounding the lake. Everything seemed so calm, that Ross felt out of place.

"Perhaps I should just forget about it," Ross sighed "I tried my best."

The Raichu waded into the shallow water and lay down in the supine position. The water covered his body but not his head. Ross closed his eyes and sighed with content. The cool water tickled him whenever the ripples touched his chin. He felt as though the water was washing away his worries. Soon, sleep overtook him.

...

Saria emerged from the underbrush and the lake came into view. The first thing that caught her eye was the raichu stretched out on his back, half submerged in water. Fear's frozen hand gripped her heart. Saria rushed over to Ross, fearing the worst. She reached the lakeside where Ross was lying. She was about to drag him out of the water when she noticed that he was slowly breathing with a serene look on his face. Mischief replaced her fear and she decided to play a trick on him when he woke up. But in the meantime, Saria curled up next to him on the grass and wondered what he dreamt about.

Ross groggily woke from his pleasant nap. He rubbed his eyes and when his vision focused, he nearly fainted from shock. Saria was standing over him; her face was only inches from his. Ross jumped up and fell backwards into the water, splashing himself.

"Ohhh…. Saria…. Hi!"

Saria giggled and walked back to shore. "Oh Ross, I was looking everywhere for you. You shouldn't leave yourself vulnerable like that, sleeping out here. You're soooo easy to take advantage of. But you really shouldn't be sleeping in the lake in the first place; you could drown."

Ross was dumbstruck. "Wait, go back, did you say that you took advantage of me?"

"You're so silly Ross, what gave you that idea?" Saria looked at him innocently

"But you just said… that you… never mind." Ross shook his head, sending drops of water in all directions. He stood up and walked out of the water.

"Come on," said Saria "let's get you dried off." She rubbed her cheek against his, soaking her own fur and making him blush.

"Don't Saria…" Ross stammered "you'll get wet too."

"It's worth it." Together, the two Pokemon walked back to the ranch.

Back at the lake, an ethereal spirit appeared at the surface. It mouthed the word "Love" before diving back into the depths of Lake Verity.
