Pterodactyls and Highly Dangerous Devices

The Doctor was running. No, running wasn't the right word. He was bolting. Bolting across a long dirt plane with Amy Pond at his side. In his left hand was a small electronic device, which was letting off intermediate bleeping noises and in his right hand was his sonic screwdriver. He looked over his shoulder at the 5 giant pterodactyls that were flying above them.

"Duck!!!" Amy screamed as one of the pterodactyls dived at them.

They narrowly avoided it and continued to run.

Amy turned her head to him while trying to keep up, "Remind me why we're running from 5 giant pterodactyls again?"

"Because they want this!" He waved the little electronic device.

"So why don't we give it to them?"

"Because it's a highly dangerous device!"

"And?"

"Would you trust 5 pterodactyls with a highly dangerous device?"

"Good point!"

One of the pterodactyls let out a high pitched scream and dived at them again.

"Doctor!"

"What?" He looked behind him to see that Amy was hanging in mid-air on the pterodactyl's foot. She had a look of fear and desperation in her face, "Oh... Um... Ok... Hold on."

He looked into the distance and saw the TARDIS shining bright in the dusty and dirty expanse of brown land. He fumbled in his pocket for the TARDIS key, trying not to drop what was already in his hands. He looked behind him, again, pleased to see Amy still holding on for her life. He dropped the key on the ground while trying to put it in the TARDIS keyhole, and let out a groan of annoyance. After another attempt at the keyhole, he ran into the TARDIS.

Within a matter of seconds the TARDIS was spiralling through the air, with the pterodactyls flying after it. The Doctor stopped fiddling with the controls and ran to the doors. The instant he opened them and he was submerged in a gush of wind. The pterodactyls flew a good 3 metres away, with Amy still hanging off the leg of the furthest one away.

"Fly over to me!" She screamed above the almighty wind. The Doctor scrambled back up the stairs to the console, the doors still held open. He manoeuvred the TARDIS to as close to Amy as he dared and bolted back down to the door. He lent out of the doorframe and extended his hand to her. She reached for it but the TARDIS wasn't close enough.

"Okay, I'm gonna try something else. Hold on!"

He dashed back up the stairs and moved the TARDIS so that it was flying directly behind the pterodactyl. He ran back to the door.

"Amy, on my say-so, I want you to let go!"

"You what?"

"I want you to let go! Ready?"

She let out a warning cry, "Doctor!"

"One, Two, Three!"

Amy let go and hurtled straight into the Doctor's arms. He let out a laugh and she followed suit.

The Doctor closed the TARDIS doors and sat on the stairs, "Now THAT is what I call an adrenaline rush."

Amy sat down next to him, "So, tell me, this 'highly dangerous device'. What is it?"

The Doctor took the device out of his jacket pocket, "I'm not really sure."

He started to buzz the sonic screwdriver over it, "Well, that's interesting."

He looked at it with his brow furrowed.

Amy was puzzled, "What?"

He got up and started to back away from Amy towards the TARDIS console, "This next sentence might annoy you, so I need you to calm down before I start it."

She glared at him, "Doctor..."

"You see... this device..."

"Go on..."

"Well, I've just discovered that it's a fake." He tried to grin to soften the mood.

She didn't look happy, "So you mean that I just hung off a pterodactyl's foot and ran for my life, so that we could rescue a FAKE dangerous device."

The Doctor pretended he hadn't heard her, "I'm going to go spend sometime in the library."

He walked briskly up the stairs to the other parts of the TARDIS, Amy not far behind, "Doctor!"
