Prologue
A hooded man walks through the sandy desert under the moonlit midnight sky. His camel walks alongside him, carrying his luggage and exotic artifacts. They walk over the dusty dunes of the desert.
He smiles slightly, feeling warmth as he is entering a town. He sets up a booth and begins to set out the artifacts he would be selling and displaying.
"Salaam," he mutters as a foreigner nears his booth, "and good evening to you, worthy friend. Please, please come closer."
The foreigner shrugs and walks closer to the booth.
"Welcome," the hooded man says, "to Agrabah. City of mystery and enchantment, and the finest merchandise this side of the river Jordan, on sale today, come on down! Hehe..."
The foreigner examines some of the merchandise, "Is this worth my time...?"
"Yes yes! Look at this!"
"Is that..."
"Yes! Combination hookah and coffee maker," he then mutters, "also makes Julienne fries... Will not break..." He taps it on the table and it falls apart.
"Ahem... it broke..."
"Yes... yes, I see- Look at this! I have never seen one of these intact before. This is the famous Dead Sea tupperware," he holds a piece of tupperware and pries it open, allowing it to make a rasberry sound, "still good."
The foreigner rolls her eyes and begins to walk away.
"Wait, wait! Don't go! I can see... I can see that you're only interested in the exceptionally rare."
The foreigner raises an eyebrow, beginning to regain her intrigue in the man's aritfacts.
"Like many things, it is not what is on the outside that counts, but what is on the inside." He leads the foreigner back to his booth and carefully takes out a lamp.
"A... lamp?"
"Yes- don't leave, please! This is no ordinary lamp. It once changed the course of a young man's life. A young man who liked this lamp was more than what he seemed. A diamond in the rough, you could say. Perhaps you would like to hear the tale...?"
The foreigner eyeballs the shiny lamp in the man's hands, then reluctantly nods, intrigued in the story behind the beautiful lamp.
"It begins on a dark night like this one, where a dark man awaits with a dark puropse-"
"Don't make me change my mind." the foreigner glares dangerously at the man.
"Right, sorry."
The man begins his tale...
(from this point on, italicized will be the narrator)
On a sandy dune stood a pale man clothed in black. Around his neck was a purple anaconda. A hooded man enters view of the dark-clothed man.
"You... are late." The dark man says, crossing his arms.
"A thousand apologies, O patient one." The man mutters, bowing slightly in apology.
"You have it, then?" the first asks, brushing off the apology.
"I had to slit a few throats to get it," he whispers, pulling out a half of a golden medallion, "but yes."
The dark man desperately reaches out for the medallion, but the other man pulls it away.
"Ah ah ah! The treasure!" he says.
The anaconda hissed and bore his fangs at the hooded man, scaring him and making him drop it.
"Eek..."
"Trust me, my pungent friend. You'll get what's coming to you." the dark man kneals down on the sandy dune and picks up the medallion.
"What'sssss coming to youssssss..." the snake mimicks. The hooded man wore the look of horror on his face at hearing the snake speak.
The dark man pulls the second half of the medallion out of his long sleeve. He carefully connects the two halves. The medallion creates the shape of an exotic insect and begins to flutter and glow. Both men watch the medallion, interested in what would happen next. Suddenly, the medallion began to fly off into the dunes. The men exchange glances, then chase after it.
They run through the sandy desert dunes under the starry midnight sky. The medallion was speedy. So much so, it was ahead. It appeared as a single glowing grain of sand in the vast desert terrain. The medallion stops and splits back into it's two small pieces. The two men start towards it but freeze in their tracks as the pieces begin to glow. The sand rises and forms the shape of a lion's head.
"At last," whispers the dark one, "after all my years of searching, the cave of wonders!"
"The cave of wonderssss..." the snake hisses.
"By Allah..!" the hoodded whispers.
"Now remember, bring me the lamp. The rest of the treasure is yours, but the lamp is mine!" States the dark one.
"hssssss the lamp..."
The hooded man nods and walks towards the cave. As soon as he walks off, the snake begins speaking open English.
"Geez, where'd you dig this bozo up?"
"shhhh"
The hooded mystery man approaches the cave, but is blown back by the roar of the lion.
"Who disturbs my slumber?" The cave roars.
"I-it is I, Kai...- a humble theif." Kai, the hooded man says, still trembling in terror.
"Know this," the cave says, "only one may enter here. One whose worth lies far within. A diamond in the rough."
Kai turns to the dark man with a questioning look. He motions for Kai to go in. He hesitates, but moves one foot into the cave. With great apprehension, he plants his foot down, shocked when nothing happens. Relieved, he begins his trek again. Suddenly, another roar comes thundering. Kai quickly turns back, but the lion's mouth shuts before Kai can escape. The cave collapses back to a normal pile of sand and the shiny pieces of the medallion are left.
"Seek out the diamond in the rough..." the cave says, before everything falls silent.
"I can't believe it. I just can't believe it. We're never gonna get a hold of that stupid lamp!" the anaconda complains.
"Patience, Skales... Kai was obviously less than worthy." the dark man mutters.
"Oh, THERE'S a big surprise," Skales shouts with very evident sarcasm in his voice, "That's incred- oh my god, I think I'm gonna have a heart attack and die from not surprise! What're we gonna do? We got a big prob-" Skales is cut off by the man covering his skaley mouth.
"Yes, we do. Only one may enter. I must find this one... this... diamond in the rough."
