There he was, as usual, on the floor, doing a puzzle with one hand while the other twirled around in his pure white hair … Unfazed, unbothered by everything.
Mello clenched his fists. How could Near be so unaffected? How could he stay so calm? How could he be doing what he does everyday … even though they just learned of his death. Mello could feel his nails start to dig into his skin. He knew it was because of Near's composure that Near always won. Mello knew that it was because he was so emotional that he couldn't beat Near. It infuriated him.
"DAMNIT NEAR!" He snapped, finally barging into Near's room, and taking the younger boy by the collar. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"
Near looked up at Mello's angered, yet saddened as if he wasn't going to cry any second, eyes; his small cold hands wrapped around Mello's hand. He didn't show any reaction whatsoever. Mello released him and took a bite from his chocolate bar; turning away from Near.
"L's dead." He muttered.
"I know." Near replied, tonelessly.
Mello shot Near a fierce glare. "Why are you so unfazed? How can you be so unaffected? L' dead, damnit!"
Tears began to fill Mello's blue eyes. He fell to ground and looked down onto the floor, his tears falling on his unfinished chocolate bar. Near approached the older boy and sat beside him; in a very L-like manner.
That night, Mello cried.
He cried for L.
He cried for himself.
He cried for Near, who was not able to cry for himself.
