Darkness…

All around, darkness. Nothing to give any signs of light, up or down, or even my sense of direction. Of anything really… Sorry, I'm rambling. I've been handcuffed to a coolant system. Bit chilly in here. And it's getting colder… Okay, I should explain myself. I'm the Doctor, the time traveling alien who lives in a big blue box. I'm sure you've heard of me… Anyway, I was handcuffed about an hour ago by a rather muscular young man. I think he likes me. But I don't roll that way. Sorry, hard to focus in here, it's quite cold. Okay, one more time, I was handcuffed because he works for a detective agency localized here in western Russia. Well, it's the Soviet Union. Did I mention this is in 1973? Okay, let's start from the beginning…

I was investigating a nuclear meltdown. I just happened to be in the neighborhood of Glavok. Small town about 20 kilometers east of Chernobyl. The TARDIS picked up on some of the weirdest Electro-Magnetic field readings I've seen in a long while. I landed the TARDIS in the hub of all activity in this town… the pub. Well, the back of the pub. I stepped out and had a look around. You would not believe the amount of Vodka bottles on the ground. Barely any. So, after that initial astonishment, I wandered inside, stepping out of the intense cold. I had my green coat buttoned up all the way. Looking around, I noticed lots of people with boils on their hands. I sat down next to a woman and talked to her. "Excuse me, Madam, I'm a Doctor. Do you mind if I help your condition?" I said. She responded, "Of course, kind sir," and she held out her hand.

Her hand was covered in open blisters and cuts, as if her skin had boiled. I pulled out the old sonic screwdriver and gave her a scan. She had recently been exposed to high levels of radiation, the stuff you only find in the heart of a nuclear reactor. So, after buying her a drink to dull the pain, I had a look outside. The wind picked up and the snow began to fall. I walked down to the local Investigative Office. I was confronted by a large group of vandals who had written some sort of graffiti on the side of the building. They told me to go back from where I came, seeing as I wasn't exactly "local" if you catch my drift. So, they left, and I went inside the office. I had a long talk to their leader about strange reports around town. People going missing, power outages, the sort of things that make the townspeople unsettled. So, I told him I would investigate, free of charge. Well, he didn't take too kindly to that. "Get out of my office, comrade. You don't know what you're dealing with," He said, in a very touchy tone.

I was thrown out of the office by that large bloke I talked about. He wasn't exactly keen on me being there, but I knew he enjoyed me physically. So I walked about halfway across town before making sure I wasn't followed. And that's when I saw it. The ship from the stars. A Slitheen cruiser. It was massive. And heading away from the Power Plant.
