Author's notes: Well, this is my first fanfic. There aren't enough stories with Motegi out there… actually, the only one I've ever seen is "House of Cards" by Lacey. Anyway, so instead of just waiting for more to be published, I decided to write one. Feel free to point out any mistakes.

Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh GX, any of its characters, nor do I make any profit from this story (do I look like I do?).

With Companions

Motegi loved companions. And it was no wonder either, seeing as how without them, he would've grown up alone. His parents left him on the island, after all.

He never knew his parents. He didn't remember anything from when he was a baby, seeing as how no one could. However, his memory stayed sharp after his infant years, so he could remember quite well growing up on Duel Academia.

Professor Chronos told him that when he was found, Mokey Mokey had been with him too. It still wasn't very clear why the card was with him and why his parents left him with that card, but Mokey Mokey became the greatest companion Motegi ever had. After that, he drifted towards the more cheerful monsters rather than those more intimidating monsters, like that… what was it called again? Red-eyes Black Dragon? Intimidating never suited him anyway. And it certainly wasn't necessary to rise up the ranks and become one of the top students (or was that just because all his opponents fell asleep during the duel?). Besides, he loved Happy Lover and Haniwa just as much as he loved his Mokey Mokey and would never give them up for any card, even if it was the rarest card in the world. After all, friends never traded friends, right? And that's what Happy Lover, Haniwa, and Mokey Mokey were.

When Professor Chronos sent him away underground, Motegi didn't mind. As long as he had his wonderful companions, he had no problems with staying underground for the rest of his life. It was actually pretty nice, and sometimes he forgot that he was underground, seeing as how it was near paradise down there. But of course, it wouldn't be like that if he didn't have his companions with him. If Professor Chronos had taken them anyway, Motegi didn't know what he would have done. Luckily, Chronos was a nice guy (in Motegi's opinion, at least) and let him keep his companions.

One would think that Motegi got dreadfully bored, stuck down there for years, but in no way was he bored. He had his friends to keep him company and tell him wild stories about everything and nothing. Sometimes, when Motegi felt inspired, he would tell them one as well and they would laugh and smile with him. Good times, good times. He was mildly surprised that some people found that kind of life dull. One didn't have to duel for his life and conquer duellists from another realm to have an exciting time. Talking to his monsters and gazing at the fake clouds was good enough for Motegi. After all, if he had refused to go down there, they might have taken his companions away…

It was worth it all to have them with him.

Author's Notes: Er… I hope you liked it. I know it's short, but there's not much to write about a character who barely appeared in the series.
