Author's Note:

Well, this is a sort of sequel to Why? but it's no problem if you haven't read that story. The main aspect was that Carrot and Angua decide to get married. That's basically all you might need to know.

The idea for this was stuck in my head for quiet a while and the story - for a matter of fact – rested for some time on my computer as well. But I decided to posted it now, even though it is quiet short.

By the way: I have to thank hyperactivator for putting the idea into my head. So well, thanks for that. ;)

For Corporal Angua the day had been, so far, very... hairy. The full moon was approaching which meant spending the night in a basket and the days trying to ignore the need to hunt... it did not matter what or more specific whom, for that matter.

She had just returned from her daily patrol, which didn't help matters very much. Every time she passed a restaurant or even a marketplace her nose told her about every detail of the offered food. It was unsettling to say at least. But the biggest problem was that the wolf wanted to hunt every criminal she had to deal with down and... well, it would not be pleasant for them.

So Angua was quiet relieved as she could finally return to the watch-house. There she met Carrot and together they went into the canteen to have lunch.

For a while they ate silently. But soon Angua noticed that Carrot was watching her with a strange gaze. She knew him long enough to know that something was on his mind.

"What is it, Carrot?"

He seemed to snap out of his thoughts, looking a bit surprised. Angua smiled at him. She really liked him.

„How much do you weigh?" Carrot suddenly asked nonchalantly, as if he was talking about the weather. It caught Angua off guard.

„Sorry?" she managed to say.

Carrot seemed a bit nervous now, he must have noticed the irritation in her voice.

„Well,... you certainly know that it is a tradition amongst dwarfs that one offers the partner's father the weight of his child in gold, when one wants to marry him. It's barter... in a way."

Angua felt dumbstruck. Carrot and his dwarfish traditions... it surprised her. Sometimes – quiet often really – he managed to surprise her when she least expected it, even after all those years they had known each other.

„Carrot, you are aware that my father is a werewolf?" she inquired carefully.

„Of course I am."

„Then you surely are also aware that he might not appreciate, or even understand the courting rituals of the dwarfs?"

„Yes, but..."

„Even if he does, he might appreciate it even more if you offered my weight in dog food, or chewing bones." Angua muttered, more to herself, then to Carrot. But the expression on his face told her, that he had heard it nevertheless.

It took Angua a moment to understand what it meant. ...

„Oh no, you won't!", she nearly yelled.

If you liked this story please review. Well if you didn't like it you might do so as well, but please stay reasonable. =)

Additional Author's Note:

Okay, so since I've corrected the first mistakes people have noticed, there are a few more things I have to say:

Firstly I forgot to mention that I'm not a native speaker, so well, there might be some grammatical errors which I can not notice...

Secondly I want to thank Quen Galad for pointing out said mistakes. I tried to correct them as best as I can... I hope it worked. But there is one thing I can not change: the weight topic. I know it's not as it is described in the books, but I needed something to start this story with. If he wouldn't ask this there wouldn't be the dialogue and that would make the story much longer and complicated. I hope that's not that bad, because after all it was only meant to be a humorous little story...
