Chapter One: Remembering

1964 Mystic Falls, Virginia

"Hello?" Caroline knocked on the Salvatore mansion, not really knowing who was inside, but clearly knowing what she wanted from the boy who lived there.

"Caroline? What are you doing here, I said I would meet you there." Stefan's green eyes pierced into hers, looking at her like she was prey and not his lover.

"Stefan, I have cancer." She said it with such force and seriousness that Stefan didn't know how to respond, he knew she wasn't joking.

"What do you mean? Caroline, you can't have cancer!" Stefan was getting angry now and she wishes she didn't tell him, all she wanted was to be comforted.

"I know, but I do, and I'm dying Stefan, I don't want you to turn me either, if god has given me this sickness, then I must have fulfilled my destiny already, and that was meeting you and helping you regain your humanity" Caroline walked over to the couch and sat down. "I know this is a lot to deal with, but I don't know what else to say, I don't want to be destined to your way of life Stefan, you know that." she said as a tear rolled down her cheek.

"But, Caroline. I love you! I don't want anyone else! I can't lose you, please don't let me lose you!" Stefan started to finally show the emotions he had been keeping back from Caroline for a long time, but its time she knew.

"I think we should tell Klaus, he can't be left in the dark." Caroline agreed, "Yes, he deserves to know."

2164 Present Day Los Angeles, California

"STEFAN! Stefan? I'm here it's okay, it's just a dream." Caroline hugged him with all the force her tiny frame could muster.

"Caroline? Oh you here, I dreamt about when you told me you had Cancer, I'm sorry I woke you." Stefan didn't want to relive that memory every again, he finally had his Caroline forever and nothing could take her away from him.

"Shhhh, it's okay, I'm here now. I'm not going anywhere you know that. It's me and you forever." Caroline told Stefan this every time he had this memory, she knew, even 100 years after it happened that he still was grieving her human life, it was taken from her all too soon.

"Stefan, we can't blame Klaus for what happened, he was just saving me. He didn't know that I didn't want this life, all he knew was that he couldn't lose me and couldn't let you suffer from my death. I thank Klaus for what he did, but we haven't seen him after he turned me. I don't know where he is, and I really miss him. I need to tell him I forgive him." Caroline always had a good heart, she could forgive someone for almost anything.

"Care? Can we do something for your birthday? Dinner? Something really nice. I know I haven't been too attentive lately" Stefan said with a wicked grin as he placed a kiss on her cheek.

"And what were you thinking Mr. Salvatore?" She said with a grin on her face as she kissed Stefan with the most passion she has kissed him with ever.

"What was that for?" Stefan replied.

"I haven't been very attentive lately either, how about we fix that?" Caroline said giggling and pulling the covers over their heads.
