Sometimes, Haruka is selfish.

Many times, they – she and Michiru – have spoken of what to do if one of them dies. The other will go on. Their mission cannot afford to be jeopardized by mourning, crying over the loss of a friend (a lover) while the Talismans are still out there.

The weight of the world bears down on them and millions of lives are more important than one woman's.

But sometimes Haruka wishes she hadn't chosen this path, had outrun her destiny like she'd been trying to do for years and years. She had a choice and she was tired of running. Tired of fighting against what am I supposed to do? and I'm so tired of running, I need to stop, I need to slow down, I just can't do this anymore.

Sometimes, she likes the fighting, likes the feeling of winning a battle, likes kissing Michiru while sweat dries on their foreheads and blood stains their fukus.

But there are times like these when she's filled with self-doubt. Haruka doubts she can carry on alone if Michiru dies before her, doesn't know if she possesses the strength to go on without her lover.

So, as Michiru sleeps next to her, aquamarine hair framing her too-lovely face, Haruka places a kiss to her lover's cheek and prays that if she dies, it is before Michiru.
