It was dark. The moon was full and the sounds of the city filled Scully's
head as she slowly walked down the street. As she turned the corner she
walked a little faster. She knew where she was going, but almost didn't know
why she was going there. The night before had been a blur. Every feeling,
thought and fantacy she had ever had about him had been exposed in written
words, which he was not to have read.
He had called her and asked her to come over. She wasn't sure why, but she
never would tell him no more than twice before finally agreeing. She had
driven to his apartment and parked in front before going up and knocking on
his door. Everything had started normally, but she could tell something was
unusual. He had sat down on the couch and she followed suit shortly after.
Looking down at the coffee table she saw it. Her notebook, which was more of
a diary, was sitting right there in front of her. It had been missing for
almost a week. Thinking back she couldn't remember leaving it there. Maybe
he had taken it by accident, but why wouldn't he have given it back to her.
"I found your notebook in the office the other day." Mulder slowly picked it
up. "I hope you won't be upset with me, but I read it."
Scully looked at him in shock. 'No. No. He didn't. He's lying.' She thought
to herself.
"Scully are you okay?" He asked looking at her closely.
She shook her head before standing up. "Mulder I can't believe you would do
that. I wrote very personal things that I never wanted anyone to read."
"I'm sorry." He wanted to say more, but couldn't. He knew she was upset.
Grabbing the notebook from his grasp, Scully headed for the door.
"Scully wait!"
"Why Mulder? So you can laugh at what a fool I am for what I wrote, because
I didn't mean a single word of it."
She was gone about a minute before he had realized it.
She was close now. It was almost mid-night. She hadn't seen or talked to him
in over 24 hours. How was she going to explain herself? As she walked up to
the front door of the building she hesitated ringing the bell so he could
let her in. Remembering that she had a key, she reached in her pocket and
retrieved it. Opening the door and walking into the elevator she began to
feel nervous. She was sure he hated her now. She reached his floor and
slowly walked to his door, knocking twice and then stepping back hoping that
he wouldn't look through his peep hole. As the door began to open she took
in a deep breath.
"Hi." He greeted her.
"Hi."
There was a long pause. She didn't know how to say what she wanted to.
"Would you like to come in?" Mulder offered.
She walked into his apartment. The second he closed the door she turned
around and began her explaination. "Mulder, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have
reacted the way I did last night. I was embarrased."
"You shouldn't have been Scully. I wanted to tell you la..." Before he could
finish his sentence she continued explaining.
"You are my best friend, and I trust you. That notebook was never to be read
by you or anyone else. I did mean everything I wrote in it."
Mulder was taken aback. "I feel the same way Scully. I have ever since I
first met you. Reading what you had written only made me love you more than
I ever thought possible."
She walked over to him and took his hand in hers. "You do? You love me?"
"For more reasons than I can say. You are perfect in every way. You are
smart, beautiful, funny, trustworthy and my best friend. You are my perfect
other."
He leaned down and kissed her soft lips. An electric pulse surged through
both of them.
"And you are mine." Scully smiled before kissing him once again.
