Sts. Valentini and the West stink

Alvin stared out the window of Dave's car thinking, Why do I have to buy Britt overpriced chocolate? The Valeintines are phony anyway. Alvin hated Valentine's day, especially the cost. Chocolate was expensive and disgusting. How did she eat that stuff?

His older brother Simon was sitting next to him. The amount of shopping was excessive, Simon thought, The greeting card business, the chocolate companies, the jewelry trade, and the department stores are the only ones benefiting from the mock holiday. In addition, the roses are covered in pesticide anyway. The Valentini are invalid Catholic saints anyway. Whom cares about the pope anyway? The cocoa growers have to labour at America's expense. Jeanette did not like chocolate, but she never asked for any gifts. Still, Dave made Simon buy out of season fruit for Jeanette.

The thought of chemical pesticides made Simon feel nauseous. Why so much abuse for an American commercial holiday? The car finally stopped at their home.

Alvin said, "I hate Valentine's day! Brittany is such a shopper." They walked in the doorway.

Simon said sarcastically, "Your wallet seems full Alvin. Why not fund the extremely illogical place that is the Western world?"

Alvin replied, "I don't understand you, Si." Both Alvin and Simon walked into their bedroom that was shared with the Chipettes. After putting their purchases down in the closet, they went into the kitchen. In there, Brittany was reading a magazine while Jeanette watched Eleanor and Theodore bake a cake. Theodore noticed his older brothers' arrival immediately.

"Hello," Theodore said invitingly, "Where did you go when you were away?" Both Alvin and Simon exchanged glances before speaking.

"We went shopping," Alvin said, trying not to give anything away. He secretly wanted to burn all of the chocolate that he bought Brittany. He and Simon climbed onto the stool near the kitchen counter.

Simon thought before he spoke. "I just accompanied him," Simon said in a disappointed tone. He wanted to sue Hallmark, Hershey's, and the rose-growing business.

"Psst..Si," Alvin whispered, "Do you wanna sue Hershey's"

"Why would I not?," Simon whispered in response, "I think they have an excessive profit anyway."

"Is that a yes?," Alvin whispered.

"I would be willing to," Simon whispered in response.
