Okay, so to expand upon other characters, here is a fanfiction story that couldn't wait to be told. This is the meeting in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers book that was mentioned by Gandalf to Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli in Fangorn Forest. It is also in the movie adaptation, with the same title, that Gandalf touches on briefly. So here we are. Enjoy. :)

One more note, I was also listening to Eurielle's cover for Howard Shore's "The Bridge of Khazad-dum" track as I was working on this drabble, which helped with the inspiration. :)

For a long time, there was nothing but atmosphere and sky. On top of that, the bright light pulled him out of the darkness and space, as if all the universe could not contain him, but instead grew until it drew him to an endless white aisle, complete with tall pillars on either side.

He had made it to the Timeless Halls, where Eru Ilúvatar lived.

Ilúvatar made his presence known to him, for Ilúvatar was a tall figure with a powerful aura, which revealed his presence. As for him – Gandalf he was called in one time and place; Olórin in another time and place – well, he was lucky Ilúvatar showed him where he was.

"Sit down, Olórin," Ilúvatar said, pointing to a bench. Gandalf took the seat next to Him, but already felt as though Ilúvatar had the larger presence. And yet, Ilúvatar was smiling. "You have done much, Olórin, in your time."

"Yes." Gandalf sighed. "It seems I have, but I have left Frodo to his quest."

"He will complete it, Gandalf the Grey." Ilúvatar perked up. "No. Gandalf the Grey you were called, for now your name shall be Gandalf the White, and you have a task in Middle-earth still to do. Saruman is still at large. And you must help Aragorn become Gondor's king."

"And what of Frodo Baggins?" Gandalf asked Him. "Is there anything we can do for him?"

"Because you have asked, I will aide Frodo Baggins on his mission." Ilúvatar added, "The quest will change him, he will find healing, but what he does next will be up to him. Know that he will complete his task. What happens afterwards remains to be seen, but he will find himself not alone. He will have friends and dangers will ever be in his wake."

Ilúvatar rose. "Come now, Olórin. It is time for you to move on, if you are ready."

"I am," Gandalf said, standing up. Just as he did so, following where Ilúvatar was leading him, a bright light pulled him out of the Timeless Halls. He awoke in the snow and cold. Ilúvatar was fortunate to clothe him in white robes, but also equipped Gandalf with a new staff.

No longer was he Gandalf the Grey. He was now Gandalf the White.
