Like he said, if she came out in the rain that night, he would drop to his knees and will himself to her forever. All had fallen apart for Chloe and there she sat, rubbing her bare ring finger as though a wound had been there. Nothing to Me. Nothing to Me. The words roamed like dark clouds in Chloe's mind. Davis was out in the dark, the cold, baring the punishment of the skies that he knew she thought was meant for her. He didn't need for her to suffer more.
"Stay inside Chloe" he whispered yet secretly hoping she would not hear him.
Chloe nursed wounds alone and recovered. At least she told herself so. But now she nursed a wound big enough to swallow her whole. She rushed out and in a few minutes was out in the downpour streamlining towards the Ultimate Cure. Just then the power short-circuited and all the streetlights were out. But she was already in his arms safe and contented despite the repercussions that would occur later. They were alone in the abyss, a world of their own and nothing else mattered
