Lori Curtis: The Unknown Sister
Sodapop…Soda…
I woke up from hearing my name, thinking it was Ponyboy, only to find him sound asleep. I sat up in bed and looked around. Was I hearing things? I took a deep breath in and layed back down falling asleep.
The next morning it seemed like the usual: Darry waking us up, Ponyboy getting ready for school, Darry and me getting ready for work and all of us eating breakfast. Although, I couldn't help, but to be bugged by that voice. It sounded so familiar, and yet I couldn't place it.
"Soda, are you okay?" Ponyboy asked.
"Oh yeah, I'm just a little tired I guess," I said deciding to ignore it for now.
I finished eating and walked with Darry out the door, while Pony headed off to school. The ride over was unusually silent, I guess because I was still trying to solve the mystery of the voice. It was driving me crazy.
"Soda…Soda…" I heard my name being called and realized it was Steve.
"Oh, hey Steve," I said leaning against a car we were apparently working on. I was thinking about that voice way too much since I don't remember getting out of the car or anything after that.
"Man, what's with you? You've had this expression on your face and have been spacing ever since you got here." Steve grabbed a rag and tossed it to me.
"I don't know. Maybe I'm tired or something," I answered him catching the rag. I put it in my back pocket and headed to the restroom, leaving Steve to tend to the customers. I looked at myself in the mirror. I looked a little pale, but not enough to stay home. I turned on the faucet, splashed some water on my face, and wiped my face with a paper towel. I looked back in the mirror and jumped, seeing a girl who looked a lot like me. She had a sad look about her face.
"Sodapop…Soda…Curtis," she sang like the voice in the middle of the night. Was I going crazy? She moved closer to me. "Soda--" I heard before running out of there. What was going on? Who was she? What did she want? I con fussed and frightened. I didn't know her. Did I?
So tell me what you think. Was it good or horrible or what?
Many thanks--
Manson Monroe
