Season 8 Vignettes

In going over the plot of "The Season Eight That Lives in My Head..." I found several scenes I could cut as they do nothing to advance the plot. They almost all fall under the category of: Tony and Angela being overly flirtatious with each other (if there is such a thing as them being overly flirtatious with each other.) I will post them here as I finish writing them.

Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow

Angela stood with her hand on the front door knob; she turned toward the kitchen and yelled, "Tony, I'm leaving!"

"Be right there," her beloved husband answered. True to his word, he quickly emerged through the swinging door and was by her side in record time. "I'll miss you," he said, then punctuated his sentiment with an ardent goodbye kiss.

Angela sighed when they finally parted, "I love the way you kiss my goodbye."

"Oh yeah? Wait until you get home and see how I kiss you hello," he promised with a grin.

The smile on Angela's face could have lit up Chicago. She dropped her head and blushed, silently cursing the fates for keeping her apart from Tony for so very long. "I'll...look forward to testing your hypothesis," she said.

"Here's a sample," he said, giving her another ardent kiss.

Angela blushed some more. Saying goodbye to Tony as she attended to business had become very difficult for her. She'd been having strong thoughts about delegating more work to her subordinates in order to spend more time with Tony. "I can't bear to be apart from you," she said as she placed her hand over his heart.

"It will be difficult for both of us. I'll be counting the seconds until you return."

"Oh," she sighed, "how will I survive with only a memory of your kiss to sustain me?"

Tony's arms closed more firmly around her as he added to her memory bank of kisses to sustain her.

The sound of a door slamming broke through the fogginess of Angela's kiss addled brain. It was Mona coming into the house. Seeing them lost in their own world of kissing...again; this habit of theirs was strangely beginning to annoy her, she rolled her eyes and cleared her throat, "you two finished saying goodbye for the day; or do I have to turn a hose on you?"

The romantic pair in question stopped kissing and in tandem turned toward Mona; both with annoyed looks in on their faces.

"I find it odd that you have a problem with this, Mother. You've been trying to get us together for years."

"Must be an example of 'be careful what you wish for'," she answered. "Every day you two stand at that door and enact your little pretend drama; it's revolting."

Tony pulled Angela a little closer, "well, excuse us for being romantic."

Mona rolled her eyes, "we have a train to catch, do you think we can go before it leaves?"

"Oh mother, there's always another train," Angela said, shocking all three of them. Did all work and no play Angela just say it was all right to miss a train?

"Oh no you don't, I am not picking up the slack if you go overboard in romance; it's time to head to the station." Maybe Mona had just diagnosed her problem, if Tony and Angela kept up with their over-romanticism at some point she was going to have to be responsible. The very thought made her inwardly shudder.

Angela agreed, she did not want her mother to bear any sort of responsibility. All business now, she asked Tony, "you have the keys?"

Tony dangled the car keys in front of her.

Angela almost opened the door; but (mostly) to annoy her mother, she kissed Tony goodbye one last time.

Mona pushed past them and opened the door herself. Tony and Angela broke off their final goodbye kiss and smiled at each other. "You ready to go to work?" he asked.

"Yes. I'll call you this afternoon."

"You taking the 6:40 home tonight?"

"Yes."

"Good, I'll pick you up then."

And with that Romeo and Juliet were left behind as Tony and Angela went back to being responsible adults...for the time being.
