The Mansion is breached, resulting in a reversal of roles and a delving into what constitutes 'family.' This is a sequel to "To Close to Home."

"But the Warden wouldn't take off without us. He'll wait for us to get there…" "He's not gonna be there, Goniff. Not this time." Chief watched as Goniff's tenuous hold on confidence and hope evaporated. "Come on. Let's get out a here."

What goes through a man's mind as he faces an uncertain future based on a blank in his life?

In the beginning, there were five. What took place between the time the convicts arrived at the Mansion and the first mission? Then there were four. What happened after their return?

Everyone has something they feel sorry about.

A chance meeting between Goniff and an old acquaintance lead to serious consequences for Garrison and Chief and trouble for the rest of the team.

There was a world war going on, and here was the war for five persons. A Five Men's War, they were fighting for the freedom of the world and they were also fighting for the freedom of theirs. 10 years after the war, an antique store owner , an Italian lived in Paris, wrote a novel about the adventure of an army officer and his men, four cons, during the war.

Pre-episode. In the desert of North Africa, a young army officer, for the first time, facing the battle of live and death, he and his men were fighting a war with courage and honor. And then he left, to joint another fighting behind enemy's line.

How did a clean-cut, twice decorated for bravery regular army officer learn about prisons? And whose brilliant idea was it to make up a team of four, make that five, convicts to operate behind enemy lines? Slightly out of order, this should have come before the other Beginnings stories.

Inspired by the life of Dr. Jan Pol, this is dedicated to all the faceless people who risked their lives daily to save and shelter the helpless from being victims of the Holocaust. History does not know their names, but God does. Some images may be disturbing.

As much as I like Kittystitch's Chief story, it isn't quite where I'm going with this. So, this is my short version of Chief's arrival at the Mansion.
