Cold Comforts

She presses her luck
And pushes her strength
Let's the fire consume her
Until all she sees is red

At night she finds her cold comfort
Stares into that frozen blue

Until all she feels is him

She feels numb to the warmth
In the embraces they offer
Unable to see the love
They give so desperately

She only feels his body
Pressed against hers

She trusts in his strength
Not trusting her own
She no longer protests the words
The whispered assurance of love

She doesn't question the need
The pull to return to him
Night after night
She hasn't the care for such things

All that she knows
All that she can be sure of
Is that her only peace is with him
Her only comfort in his arms
The cold that numbs the pain
