Writing a little Chesh/Roy with mentions of Spitfire

I heard slight rustling in the kitchen and immediately my eye flew open. After living with Jade for so long, any unrecognizable sound was considered a threat. It got even worse now that we have Lian.

I get off the bed and realize that she's not by my side. I walked out into the hallway and then to the kitchen. I see Jade stuffing her sai's and other weapons into a large duffle bag. I guess she feels me staring at her so she points her sai in my face. "You can't stop me."she seethes.

"What the hell are you doing at," I glance at the oven clock, " 3:54 in the morning?" I am pretty much immune to her threats, so I pay no attention to the sharp blade pointed at my face.

"And your answer better be 'to feed Lian' because she's going to want a fresh new bottle any minute now." I say while crossing my arms and waiting for an answer.

"Well?" I asked. She puts the sai down and continues to stuff things in the bag. "I'm going to avenge Artemis' death." she says calmly. She starts to tie her hair in a ponytail and puts a baseball cap on her head.

"How?" I ask.

"By bringing home Aqualad's head on a silver platter." she looked in the mirror fixing the strands of hair in her face.

"Jade come back to bed, we'll talk about this in the morning." I yawned.

"Roy there is nothing to talk about." she said slinging her bag over her shoulder. "One of my sister's old teammates turned evil and took her life. My father and I-"

"Wait your father? As in Sportsmaster?" I ask.

"Yes. As I was saying, we are going to show Kadur and Black Manta that you don't mess with the Crocks." She began to tie her shoe laces.

"Next you'll be saying that Wally is in this." I say more to myself than to her.

"Umm no. He said that's not what Artemis would've wanted. But what would he know, he wasn't her sister." she looked out the kitchen window went to the closet to find her umbrella.

"Are you serious right now Jade? What about Lian? What kind of lesson is this to her?" I ask while walking up to her.

"She has you now, she doesn't need me anymore."

Now I saw why she was avenging Artemis' death.

Guilt.

She wasn't able to protect her when she was younger and now that she's dead, she feels like it's all her fault.

"Look Jade I know what it feels like to-"

"NO! You have absolutely no idea how I feel! I haven't slept in days and neither has Wally. They were together for five years and I was supposed to be her sister and I failed!" She was yelling now. She looked as if she was in the verge of tears so I did the only thing I could do.

I hugged her.

"Stop it Roy." She started to flail in my arms but I only embraced her tighter.

"Roy get OFF RIGHT NOW!" I effectively wrapped her arms in my embrace so she would hurt me. For an assassin I would've thought I would be on my back from a drop kick or something. But instead she stop resisting and started to cry. I could feel warm, salty, tears hit my bear shoulders.

"Roy, I loved her." she let out. "She was my sister who did well in life, despite her past." she lifted her head from my shoulders and looked at the carpet. "She went to Gotham Academy, she got in a sidekicks Team,-"

"We don't really like that name." I mumbled softly.

"And she found Wally. She loved him and she spent five years laughing and talking to him. We even got closer when I was pregnant-"

"Wait she knew?" I asked. But she ignored my question just continued.

" and she was a wonderful Aunt." Jade finished and we just stood in silence.

"Yeah, she was." I add.

She looked me in the eye and asked, "What do I do now?"

I cupped my hands on her face and said, "Teach our daughter all about her wonderful Aunt." she smile quietly and kissed me slowly.

Although Jade's tears were dried, Artemis - who was spying a few feet away - cried silently because her sister actually missed her.
