Dying Moments
Siri knew.
She knew in that moment that these were her last in the galaxy; her final dying moments.
She also knew that she had to make them last. She had to make them last because she would never get a second chance.
Never get a second chance with him.
He'd been everything to her; her love, her reason for being.
Siri would have endured all the Corellian Hells for all of eternity, for one pure blissful moment with him.
But she couldn't. She never had, and in these last moments, she knew she would. Because of who they were…
Because of the Code.
There is no emotion, there is peace.
Who came up with that?
Probably some emotionless alien with no empathy, no understanding of the painful pangs of unrequited love.
Siri knew all about unrequited love.
At first it hadn't been.
At first, it had been full of emotion and fiery passion. But then they had put duty over love; listened to their heads instead of their hearts. Oh how she hated the part of herself that had made that decision.
Because then her love had become unrequited.
Siri could never have stopped loving him. It would have broken her.
But now, as she lay dying on Azure, Siri realised it had broken her anyway. Now she could only relax and feel her life-Force ebb away into the ever-flowing river of the Force; only relax and feel death claim her.
But, she reconsidered:
There is no death, there is the Force.
So, with her final dying moments, with the final tears of unrequited love, Siri whispered to the man who held her, the man she'd loved from afar for over fifteen years. "I love you, Obi-Wan. I have always loved you."
And as he heard her words, he replied truthfully, as he always did: "The feeling is mutual, Siri, my angel."
That was all Siri had ever really needed: someone to love and be loved by in return. And like all the Jedi, it was something she could never have.
Had never had.
Past, present, future, the Jedi were alone; always solitary, unloved and unloving.
All this in the mind of a lonely girl; her final dying thoughts.
In her final dying moments…
Siri Tachi, Jedi Knight died 20BBY.
Fierce fighter, gentle carer, faithful friend.
She rest in peace, in an age of war and heroes. She was definitely one of them.
Fin…
