He stared out the window of the train, watching absently as trees and the occasional house went dashing past. In the seat across from him, Alphonse was slouched over, fast asleep. He had indulged in big-brotherly feelings several hours ago, tucking his long frock coat around the other young man's shoulders.

Another house rushed by, and a lump rose in his throat.

It had looked...so familiar, that house. At least, the brief glimpse he'd caught of it looked familiar.

How long had it been now, since he'd seen Risembool? How long had it been since he'd seen his brother, his childhood friend, her grandmother...?

...How long had it been since he'd seen home?

Six months, nineteen days, and sixteen hours.

It had been much, much longer since he'd seen his little brother's face.

He looked over at the sleeping figure on the opposite bench.

It had been too long since he'd seen his little brother's face.

Six months, nineteen days, sixteen hours, and eleven minutes.

...How much longer would he have to wait?

Edward turned back to the window, and hoped to catch another elusive glimpse of something like home.
