"What do you say, Evans? Will you go out with me?" James asked Lily as he handed her a flower that he stole from the herbology greenhouse.
"For the millionth time, no I will not go out with you!" she replied, cutting off the top of the flower with a pair of scissors that she was holding.
Although he got on her nerves, she was half-tempted to say yes. It was a few weeks into their seventh year at Hogwarts, and he was acting a lot less idiotic and a lot more mature during this year than during their previous years at Hogwarts.
Lily decided that next time he asked her, she'd say yes just to see what his reaction would be. Sure enough, that evening during dinner, James sat next to Lily and put his arm around her. "Evans, do you want to go on a date with me? Saturday we can go to lunch in Hogsmeade. There's this great restaurant that would be perfect for a romantic couple like us."
"Sure."
"Why not, Evans-wait, what?"
"I will go on a date with you."
"Wait, what?"
"Do I really have to repeat myself, James?"
James jumped up and started yelling, "She said yes!" to random people while grabbing them by the shoulders. He even went to the Slytherin table. Lily just sat there watching him and laughing while the other Marauders looked bewildered. Obviously no one expected this to happen during their lifetime. Surprisingly, Lily was actually looking forward to their date.
