Uchiha Itachi; Start of his Akatsuki career; nowhere in particular.

He lunged forward, arm whipping back in a deadly arc of steel. The glint of harsh metal was the only thing that could be seen, a glimpse of the grim reaper's scythe. The blossoms of red decorated it soon after.

He stood there, body arched with grace. He was all angles and sharp edges - there was no softness in him, or rather, there was no room for softness.

The battlefield, overcast by the dull jade leaves of the forest sifted the light, letting the few beams of moonlight stream in and illuminate the red flowers on the ground.

It used to be white, you know.

He picked one, and had he been any less than what he is, he would've wept for lost innocence.

He would've wept for the days he spent with his brother, and how his brother always managed to lift the weight off his shoulders on those days, as if it never existed.

He would've wept and wailed for ruining his brother's youth, for tainting it and warping it and breaking–

He would've wept, but he didn't.

And maybe that was the saddest thing of all.

But he hasn't lost his sight yet. He could still keep going. Still keep going for that vision his clan never imagined except for him. Maybe it'll be worth it, he thought.

He jumped, and vanished into the night sky.
