Another original "Thomas" story, this time it's "James's New Coat" with added lines by tate310. Enjoy and comment.

It was the day after Halloween on the Island of Sodor. Everyone was getting back to their usual routine, and working hard.

James however was not working hard. He was having trouble with the freight cars. They were making him go very fast.

The driver first applied the brakes. but he couldn't! Then, he reduced stream but James was still going fast, straight into a muddy pool! No one was hurt, but James was covered from footplate to fender in sticky, gooey mud.

On the way to the wash-down, James was very cross at his driver.

"You should have applied the brakes before I went into the mud!"

"The brakes were stuck." said the driver. "I wasn't able to pull them on time!"

After a nice wash-down, James went back to the sheds, where Sir Topham Hatt was waiting for him.

"James, you are to painted pink for a children's carnival." he said. "Some painters are waiting for you at the docks, and then you will take the special train to the carnival site.

James was now even more cross. He loved his special red coat.

"Please sir." he said. "Is this only temporally?"

"Yes it is. Now, you must puff as fast as you can. There is no carnival unless you bring it!"

James puffed away.

At the docks, some painters were waiting for James. They took out their paintbrushes, and began to paint James pink.

Soon, James was completely pink, and was attached to the special carnival train. Then, he set off once more.

But he was still feeling cross.

"This isn't fair, this isn't fair!" he said to himself.

On his way to the carnival, he bumped into Gordon.

"Who are you?" asked Gordon.

"Who am I? Well I'm James!"

"Rubbish! James is red, not pink! You must be an imposter!"

Gordon laughed, and James puffed crossly away.

Soon he arrived at the carnival site. The children clapped and cheered! Thomas and Emily were there, and so was Sir Topham Hatt and his mother Dowager Hatt!

"Good work James!" boomed Sir Topham Hatt. "You are a really useful engine!"

James felt much better, and was proud to be a really useful engine, even though he was temporally painted pink.
