She hadn't even seen her face the first time she made her smile. Lena was walking down the aisle of the store marked "Organic" when she spotted the little boy. He was red in the face, his small fists shaking by his sides, as he cried quietly. She couldn't make out exactly what he was upset about but she was sure it had something to do with the small scrape forming on his forehead and the shelf that was just a little too low for him to play under. She frowned at first, sad for the upset little boy but her frown slowly turned up at the edges. There was a woman, with a high blonde ponytail kneeling in front of the boy. Her thin hand smoothed over the boys brown curls as she whispered soothing words.

"It's only a little owie Love." She cooed as she fingered the small scrape gently, "would it help if mommy kissed it better?"

Lena smiled as the little boy nodded his head and the dutiful mother leaned forward, peppering his small face with kisses. Her hand found her pocket and she felt something poke her. She pulled the offending item from her pocket, a white stick with a small clear cherry red ball on the top. One of the many perks of teaching small kids, always having candy. She cleared her throat and found her voice,

"What about a sucker?" The blondes head whipped around as Lena stepped forward with the candy in hand, "Would a sucker help?"

The little boy jumped up happily and reached for the woman who handed him the treat with a big smile.

"Brandon!" The blonde quickly chastised, "What do you say?"

"Thank you," He whispered shyly as he pulled the wrapper from his candy.

"You're welcome! Brave boys deserve rewards," She smiled.

Finally the blonde stood and they were eye to eye. Lena's breath caught as her brown eyes met the beautiful almond shaped green ones in front of her.

"Thank you so much, you really didn't have to do that."

"It's no problem oh and it's sugarless by the way." She smiled and the blonde smiled and even greater one.

"You must be a mother," she laughed, "Only a mother would carry sugarless lollipops."

"Actually no. But as a teacher, I have to keep something on hand for bribery." The two laughed before she extended her hand, "I'm Lena by the way."

"It's nice to meet you Lena, I'm Stef."

As their skin connected they both realized just how beautiful the woman in front of them really was. Their appearances contrasted amazingly, both of them able to appreciate the striking beautiful differences within one another. They both turned the same direction falling into a rhythm as they walked side by side. They may not have known in that moment but it didn't take many more for them to realize, they didn't want to spend their lives walking side by side with anyone else.
