The Fire That Spreads
He reaches for the light,
So close and yet so far.
What did he do?
Why are they doing this to him?
And the light burns his weary eyes.
He succumbs to the darkness;
And the fire spreads within him.
He is not sure of the time;
Not a clue of the truth and lies.
Where is he?
How can he escape?
But he is forced to feel, to see,
As his tender skin screams in agony;
And the fire spreads within him.
His mind is divided in two.
He searches for the right and the wrong.
When did he become so confused?
Who is ripping him apart?
A cruel whisper will convince him
To choose a side that is not his;
And the fire spreads within him.
His heated gaze locks upon her.
His face is devoid of any expression.
What is she doing?
Why is she intent on killing him?
He is commanded of what he must do.
It is a simple act of ridding her from the world;
And the fire spreads within him.
He wails his never ending frustration.
He does not like being poked and prodded.
Where do they expect him to be?
How will they change him back?
If that was what he was, a pathetic boy;
Surely, he cannot choose that path;
And the fire spreads within him.
He stares at her and cynically wonders;
She cannot be what he wants.
emWhen will they leave his mind alone?
Who will give him his freedom?
The days has gone by in restlessness.
He is not sure of who he is anymore;
And the fire spreads within him.
He knows who he is to others and to her;
He is a tortured soul, a work in progress.
What will he become, again?
Why is it so hard to resist their intentions?
No, he cannot be weak and give in now.
He needs to stay as he is;
And the fire spreads within him.
He reluctantly admits to remorse, ashamed.
He tries to break away and be willing.
Where can he go and forget his hatred?
How does he start to trust himself?
His is doubtful of their prudent actions
But their reasons has become so tempting;
And the fire spreads within him.
His mind has made up itself.
He begs, pleads, to be taken away.
When will his eyes see the black abyss?
Who are they to deny him his wish?
Shocked of what transpires between her and him,
He is confidently certain now
That he cannot let himself drift away;
And the fire spreads within him,
Tamed with an everlasting hope.
A/N: Thank you so very much for taking the time to read this poem. I don't think it's the best I've written so far... Maybe, but I think it does show Peeta at his worst and his journey to finding himself. So, I am quite proud of what I've written. Review are very much appreciated by the way. :) Thanks, Patty.
