update: Oh gosh! Sorry about the typos from before! I was trying to post really quick before I went on vacation, but I guess I should have waited because I paid no attention to the writing errors. Cookies for everyone! *cookie shower* Hey look, there are cupcakes in here too!
I own nothing! Please review, no flames!, hope this makes you smile!
Looking down gives him vertigo. All the people and cars look so unimposing form up here. It's the evening and the sidewalk is now cooling down, and it probably feels comfortably warm like the ledge he's on now. He knows with just one twitch of a muscle, an electric impulse sent out from the brain through synapses to the leg would send him hurtling down multiple stories to find out. And yet, he doesn't. He waits for the breeze to carry him away. He doesn't want to kill himself; he's just expecting to not-exist already. (Still impatient even when contemplating suicide, that's Ed for you!) There is a presence beside him, and the Colonel sits down holding a bag of M 'n Ms. He says he got the note. Ed replies he thought he might be dead by now, but apparently not. Mustang offers some candy but Ed isn't biting. He wonders out loud if the Colonel even likes him… No? Ed think it might hurt to hit the ground that hard but he'll be dead so-
"No, Ed I don't just like you. I love you."
"That was fucking corny; you could have just said it outright."
Roy laughs at this. He answers he's glad his Xiao huoyan* hasn't gone out. Ed scowls good-naturedly and says he's not small. Roy is so pleased with the fact that Ed isn't permanently broken and with the accurate translation, that he leans over and pecks him right on the lips. They both get up and walk back down to where Ed could check that warmth of the sidewalk with much less space between him and the ground. Back at Mustang's place, he offers an M 'n m and he accepts.
Years later (but not that many), when Roy takes Ed back to the rooftop, they are both crying, and for a good reason, which is something neither of them did that night on the asphalt expanse before. In the taller man's pockets are a bag of M n Ms and a ring case. He tosses it to Ed and says He doesn't just love him now but he'll love him Forever. Ed expresses his thoughts that "that was fucking corny and he could have just asked me to marry you." (Guess what his answer is, though) They sit and watch the moon rise over Central in each other's arms, feeling as high as the breeze could take them, anchored by the soft effervescence of reality. They don't ride off into the sunset, because by now it's already dark, but there are stars out and that counts for something.
* Little Fire
So I used a little Chinese to symbolize/replace Xingese. I don't speak it, I just used Google Translate and some good ol' Firefly. Thanks space cowboys, for teaching me how to curse in a mixture of Mandarin and Cantonese!
