Summary: She was broken; he couldn't put her back together again.
His footsteps now seemed too quiet, too gentle.
As if she was broken.
Even his voice- too soft, too gentle, too kind.
As if he could fix her.
His breath hitched as he saw her, standing in the moonlight- so beautiful, so fragile, so broken.
He parted his mouth, but no words came out. He inhaled deeply, and finally spoke, with an air of hesitance.
"Are you alright?"
She was not alright, oh no, she was most certainly not alright.
"No."
"Can you tell me what's wrong?"
"No."
"Please?"
"For Adin's sake Lief, leave me alone!" She snapped, whirling around to face her confronter. "I've told you, there is nothing you can do to help me. You could never understand!" She yelled. His eyes narrowed and his face twisted to one of frustration.
"Tell me what the hell is wrong, make me understand!" He raged and stepped forward and grasped her by the shoulders. "Why can't you tell me? We used to tell each other ever-!"
"I loved him, Lief! I LOVED HIM!" She screamed. "I loved him...I loved him, Lief..." her voice trailed off, there was no need for further explanation. They had all felt the blow of Dain's betrayal hard, but Jasmine...
He heard her cry at night, and hated the one who reduced her to this.
His grip loosed and he let her go. She looked up at him, tears streaking down her face and she ran away.
She didn't notice his tears, nor his ghost of a smile.
"But I love you too," he whispered.
