Prolog

The stillness of the night was so compelling sometimes. The flaming heat of the fire was warming and it's flickering flame could often be compared to the briliant stars in the sky. The animals and wind weren't such a bad company either. Their song was beautiful but subtle enough to be ignored entirely. It could do without Nora's snore though. Still, Ruby wasn't very fond with the night.

Ruby was keeping watch for the night while the rest of her companions had long gone sleep. They had gone quite far from Vale, from Beacon. Still pretty far from Mistral, but at least they had made some progress. And they reached pass the point of no return. She was glad that none of her backed out, but she feared that the lives of her friends. Their journey would be dangerous and even she couldn't comprehend what would happen after that.

Ruby looked at each of her companions. Jaune, Nora, Ren and herself, all looking for a clue in Haven, a Huntsman Academy in Mistral. A clue for why everything that had happened to Beacon Academy, their school and perhaps, just to find a way to avenge or justify a fallen friend. A victim and a hero who died protecting what Beacon and Vale until her final breath. If only she came a little bit sooner, just a mere few seconds, Pyrrha might be sleeping here with them.

Not only her. Ruby had also lost Penny. A dear friend from Atlas. An Android with the capacity to actually feel, to have emotions, to own a soul. She never undermined her artificial origin and considered her a true friend. Never had Ruby thought that her mechanical form was the main cause of her demise.

But again, Ruby lost more than a few friends that day. She also lost her entire team, separated by each of their own situation. Yang was hopeless, broken, to afraid to move on. She needed time to be alone and Ruby understood her feeling. Blake was gone. Just gone without even a word to be left by. Blake chose to left and Ruby got that.

But Weiss… Weiss didn't have any voice to the matter. She didn't choose to leave, she was forced to. She was forced to follow. She was forced to be taken away. She was forced to leave…. to leave Ruby alone. Even though she had every reason to understand, she couldn't.

Ruby took out at a pendant from one of her pockets. It was attached simple string, and the material wasn't anything special. But to Ruby, that was one of the most important thing she own. She looked at it tenderly. It was looked like a deep ruby sun, but it was incomplete. It was missing its other half "Why did you leave me, Weiss?"

This is why she was never fond of the night. It compelled her to think about what she had lost.
