Chapter 1: Free From All The Pain

The sunlight was shining down on a petite, raven-haired woman. Her large, midnight blue eyes skimmed around the sight of the park. A small smile graced her pink lips as she watched children play games of Tag and Hide and Seek. She walked through her usual pathway, turning every now and then to avoid the more crowded areas of the park. Even on a bright sunny day, there could always be a mugger or robber ready to steal your items.

Walking under the Sakura tree, her eyes lit up. Every time she saw Sakura flowers, it always reminded her of her boyfriend, now fiancé, Byakuya Kuchiki. She remembered when she first met the cold-hearted, stoic heartthrob of the school. An cold sheet of ice always covered him, but somehow, she was able to melt that sheet.

Reminiscing her times with her friends and fiancé, she was too caught up to notice that she was in an alley.

"Huh? How did I get here? I might have dozed off, oh well, back to the path..."

"Not so fast, little lady!"

Fear filled every corner of her midnight blue eyes. A figured stepped out of the shadow, others following it.

"Well, lookie here! That purse looks mighty fine expensive, how 'bout we take that off your shoulders, eh?"

"Oh, Pete, we can't do that, we have to... er, treat the little lady before we take 'er stuff."

"S-stay away! I-I'm engaged to Byakuya Kuchiki!"

Normally, the name of the heir of Kuchiki Corp. fortune would be enough to scare anyone away, but not these guys.

"Oh, you're that Kuchiki brat's girl? Then we'll treat ya real good!"

Her eyes widened. No, no, this can't be happening, NO! Her body was for the love of her life, and she firmly believed in the morals she grew up with.

"Stay away from her!"

The heads whipped around to a tall man wearing a grey sweatshirt, a hood covering her face and identity.

"What?"

"I said, STAY AWAY FROM HER YOU SON OF A BITCH!"

"Get 'im!"

All four gang members attacked the lone man, each pulling out switchblades from their pockets. The man was strong, holding his own against the four others but as soon as they started slashing him with a knife, he knew he was dead. The leader came up from behind and stabbed the man in the back, the blade going through his heart and a lung. The leader smirked.

"That's what you get for messin' with me and my gang! Let's go boys!"

He walked off, his three goons following him. Hisana's eyes trailed over to the bloodied man, hurrying over to him. She placed her hand on his back and pulled out the knife, the life slowly leaving his eyes.

"Are you alright, Hisana?"

"A-Adrian?!"

Hisana gasped in horror, there he was, bloody and dying to save her, Adrian her best friend.

"Hisana... listen... this wasn't... your fault..."

Adrian preceded to cough up some blood, Hisana's eyes tearing up.

"I... I did this on my... own free will... Hisana, I have to tell you... even though you're engaged, I need to tell you..."

He continued coughing.

"Hisana, I... I loved you..."

His hand fell limp.

"No. No. No. NO! ADRIAN!"

Hisana began to cry, bawling her eyes out. Minutes later, Byakuya walked into the scene, hearing the commotion. His eyes widened in shock, his hands quivering. He looked down, his hair shadowing his face as a tear trailed down his cheek.

"Hisana, I loved you and what do you do? You go and kill my best friend, our best friend..."

He looked up again, this time anger and hatred in his eyes as he glared at her.

"You, you murderer. We are over. I'm not going to marry a bitch who killed by best friend."

Hisana gasped as she opened her eyes. That's right, she had dozed off, just like on that day. She looked towards the warm, sunny sky. Why was Kami so cruel, to have Adrian killed on a sunny, happy day, just like today. He was killed, right in front of her.

Right in front of her.

He died for her.

Sacrificed his life for hers.

Sluggishly, Hisana moved into a sitting position, having stopped by the park on the way back from school.

Oh how se hated school. She attended the same school as Byakuya, the Seireitei Academy of Arts. It was a school for the gifted, the talented. Kami knows how a nobody like her got in. Word had spread of Adrian's death, but only in one perspective. That she had murdered the beloved, always-grinning knucklehead of the school. She had just came back from a beating, courtesy of her former friends who had all left her because of that damn rumor. After the whole incident, she became known as the 'bitch that killed Adrian' or 'whore' or 'slut' for short. Of course, these weren't the only names, there were many more, and she was sure of it.

On the way home from the dreaded school, she had unknowingly stopped at the Sakura patch, probably from habit. She cursed at herself and while sitting on the bench, must have fallen asleep.

She got up and walked back home.

"There you are! Where were you? Getting some new knives to kill someone else, huh?"

Hisana hung her head low, looking away.

"Anyway, I don't care. Cook up some dinner, I'm hungry."

Obediently, Hisana cooked pasta, adding meatballs to satisfy her sister's taste. Her sister of all people, her younger sister Rukia, even she believed the others. She believed Hisana was a murderer out to destroy everyone's happiness.

Just as the doorbell rang, she was finished setting up the table. Rukia ran down the stairs, makeup and all, and opened the door. Without even moving, I could tell who was there.

"Ah, Byakuya-kun! How handsome you are today! Come, let's go."

Just as the two left, Byakuya shot a glare in my direction. Linking his arm with Rukia's he led her to his car, leaving Hisana alone in the house.

Hisana sat in her room, a pen and pencil out, and began writing. Finishing her letter, she folded it into an envelope and wrote 'To: Byakuya-kun'. She repeated the process and wrote 'To: Rukia-chan'. Hisana was sure Rukia didn't want to be considered Hisana's sister, so she avoided calling her imoto-chan.

Hisana was done. No more, this is too much. I go to school everyday and get beat and verbally abused. I come home and then my sister gets her share of destroying me. I can't take it. Coming home and crying wasn't enough, so I started cutting. Cutting wasn't enough so I used pills. I, I can't take it anymore. I will be free, free from all the pain.

Rukia and Byakuya entered the house after coming back from their date. Entering the kitchen, Rukia found her pasta covered and still warm.

"Byakuya, do me a favor and give this to her, will ya?"

His response was a grunt as she carried the plate up the stairs.

Dear Byakuya,

Carefully holding the plate in one hand, he entered the living room.

I know you probably hate me right now. You think I killed Adrian, and the way you saw us, I would have said I killed Adrian too.

He walked through the large living room, lifting one foot onto the stairs.

I realized a long time ago, life isn't fair. It's like sweet and sour sauce. Well, at least my life was like that. The moment you first taste that, it seems so sweet. I remember everything we did. We were each other's firsts, and I didn't mind, nor did you. We were desperately in love. I remember you introducing me to your friend Adrian. He was a knucklehead but he was happy and always knew how to make someone laugh.

He walked up the spiral staircase, his gut telling him that something was wrong.

Then all of a sudden, when you think the sweet will never end, the sour comes. Your face pinches up and you try to end the sour quickly. I was so happy, and then tat day at the park happened and nothing was the same every again. You and my former friends beat me up. As soon as word spread, everyone called me a 'slut' or 'bitch'. Word soon reached the court and, to you, I was released for no reason and it angered you that I wasn't rotting away in jail. I want you to know the truth, at least my letter won't be in vain.

He reached the top of the staircase. Walking towards Hisana's room, he stopped, holding his fist up to the door, unable to knock.

Why am I writing this letter then? If I could tell you, why write this long, long letter? Well you see, when you reach my home, I'll probably be free by that time. I'll be free from this damn life and all the pain that came with it. That's right, you guessed it, I'm killing myself, committing suicide, but don't worry, I'll say hi to Kami for you. No one wants me, I have no reason to live. If I'm just going to be tortured then I might as well be dead.

He knocked on the door, no response. He knocked, once again, this time annoyed.

"Hisana?"

He grumbled unfathomable words.

"I'm coming in.

He opened the door, entering her room. The sight before him made him drop the plate, the loud crash emitting throughout the entire house.

Before him was the body of Hisana, his former fiancé, with a bloody knife next to her, a stab mark through her heart, a pool of blood around her, her eyes closed and a smile on her pale face.

So this story is, well it has a lot of angst. After reading Dear Hinamori by JoanyChan (if you like HitsuHina on a sibling level then try it. I loved it!)I wanted to make a Byakuya/Hisana version of Dear Hinamori but I couldn't find any... er, inspiration. Just recently, I read Realization by withinthedepths and I absoletly loved the angst it had (it's a SasuSaku fic for you Naruto fans *SCREAMS AS A FANGIRL*) Anyway, this story is a bit of a combination between the both.

If you got confused, everything in italics after 'Dear Byakuya" is apart of the letter. Like JoanyChan, I'm going to make it so that you read the letter while the normal story goes on so the key is:

italics= part of the letter

normal= real life events
