It had started out as just another night. They had never seen the original Star Wars Trilogy. Leia and Han had just been iconic "I love you." "I know." flashed on the screen.

"They are such a master class in the slap, slap, kiss trope." Raini broke the silence from her end of the couch.

"I think we do it justice."

"Sure but it's a children's show."

"Are you saying you are ashamed of our job? And who says I was talking about our characters?"

"Of course, I'm not ashamed…wait, what?"

"Tell me you have never thought about kissing me."

"I…"

"Because it's a thought that crosses my mind with great regularity. In fact, I've just decided that I am going to kiss you now"

"Calum, what if it ruins everything?"

"What if it makes everything perfect?"

He pulled her face to his and gently kissed her.

Her hair was plastered to her face with sweat. Their breathing was ragged. He pulled the blanket up around them and pulled her in.

"Calum, I…"

"I know." He cut her off with a kiss

He was exceptionally pale, even for him. His knees were jello and then, he saw her. Standing at the end of aisle on her father's arm. More beautiful than he had ever seen her. As the distance closed between them, all his doubts fled. Her father gave him her hand and as they faced each other, just before the vows began, he tried to speak but she cut him off.

"I know"

The book flew across the room narrowly missing his head. They both stood red faced in their living room. One of the intense but infrequent fights they had. It was that point in the fight where it was not about who was right or wrong but who would say I am sorry first. Their eyes locked and they both knew Calum would sleep on the couch that night. At 100am, he woke up to her sitting on the floor by the couch with tears streaming down her face. He wiped one away and said, "I know."

For ten hours, she had endured the pain. At 4:14am, a piercing scream split the delivery room, followed by a bellowing cry. Finally, their daughter was born. Raini's mouth was agape and she laughed and cried at the sound. She looked over at Calum who had tears streaming down his cheeks as well. He burst out with a rapid fire declaration.

"You made me a dad. I never knew it would feel like this. You made me a dad. Raini, I.."

"I know."

It had started with a few scattered bruises that appeared out of nowhere. She started to get short of breath when she walked long distances. She attributed that to her advancing years. After all, 65 is no spring chicken. She lost her appetite. Calum finally put his foot down when she had a nosebleed that didn't stop for 30 minutes.

Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

The diagnosis made her ears ring and her head pound. When the doctor said that at this stage the treatment would kill her faster than the cancer, she and Calum booked a European trip.

They snapped a lock in Paris, floated down the Venice canal, and drank wine in Italy. Mackenzie threw her parents a 40th wedding anniversary party.

The last day she woke up, she opened her eyes to see her graying husband beside her. He felt her stir.

"Are you hurting, babe? Do you need anything?"

"Hold me?"

He pulled her close and just started talking about anything and everything. The first house they purchased together. The matching Golden Globes in the front room for her directing and his writing. Mackenzie's fifth birthday when she fell from the tree house and broke her arm. Raini's 30th birthday when Baby died and he set up a meeting with Ryan Gosling to cheer her up. Every memory. Every tear and laugh. In his heart, he felt as if he kept talking she would stay with him.

"You are the best decision I ever made, Raini"

"The feeling is mutual."

"Raini, I.."

"I know."
