61. A Nine Iron

It was a bad day for everything, getting out of bed had been a bad idea. Of this, Lavender was certain of. She'd only gotten up to attend a seminar about the ancient magics. There was a guest speaker about Voodoo, and she had really wanted to attend. So far, she'd fallen off her front steps, broken the heel of her shoe, and managed to smear something red all over her lovely golden dress.

"Why did I even agree to this," she muttered. She'd come to America to start over after the war. No one here judged her because of the scars across her face, her arms. No one here judged her for the wolf lurking beneath her skin. Her ex-girlfriend had been the only person who had ever looked at her for her, but even that had ended in a blaze of disaster.

The hotel where the seminar was being held was crowded, many witches and wizards had come from all over the world. She looked around hoping she wouldn't see anybody she knew. She liked the new life she was starting here.

"Oh my Merlin!" she heard someone scream. She turned with a sigh. She recognized the voice. Daphne Greengrass...the last witch she wanted to run into.

"Daphne, hi," she said putting a large smile across her face and greeting her former schoolmate.

"It is you! The last time I saw you, we broke into that muggle golf place and got chased by that mad man with that, what was it, nine iron? Nevermind that, what are you doing here?"

"I came to see the speaker on Voodoo? Yourself?" Lavender really really hoped Daphne was here to see something, anything else. The last thing she wanted was to be stuck sitting in the same room as her crazy ex-girlfriend.

"The same, oh wow, I never thought I'd run into you here, of all places. We should catch up." Lavender nodded wondering just how long she could keep a fake smile plastered across her face. Her scars were beginning to hurt.

"I'd better go grab a seat," Lavender stated.

"I'll come with, remember that one time, when we..." Lavender sighed wondering how today had gone so wrong. They ended up sitting next to each other, Lavender trying to ignore Daphne, and Daphne poking her on and off, bringing up old times.

Lavender listened as the speaker talked about the ways to end a relationship using Voodoo. She really listened, although Daphne kept talking. Lavender made mental notes of everything she'd need, everything she would ever need to seperate her and Daphne for good. Once the lecture ended, she excused herself from Daphne's presence.

There was a small shop set up in the hotel, selling most of the ingredients the speakers mentioned, it was a great way to tie things together. Lavender spent her last bit of gold and hoped this would work. If not, then she would be forced to admit just how much she'd missed Daphne, how much she wanted to be back with her and get into crazy situations.

"Are you sure these are what you want?" the witch asked looking at Lavender's purchases. "You won't be able to undo it, and if it goes wrong..."

"I know what I'm doing, thank you." She managed to get home before Daphne came looking for her. She pulled her things out and started the ritual. Just as she reached the critical point, someone knocked on the door. Lavender rose, knocking over one of the candles. The area rug caught on fire. Putting it out she opened the door revealing Daphne.

"Hey, um, can I crash with you? I kind of got myself kicked out again," she smirked. Lavender sighed. It was a bad day for Voodoo, a bad day for getting out of bed, but maybe...not a bad day for love?
