Hey everyone. This story was brought to you by the Ongoing - Gift Tag on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I wrote my gift fic for Haley using her prompt of Susan/Daphne first date. I hope you all enjoy Lovely First Date.
"Hello," the red haired waiter behind the wait stand said as Daphne stepped into the fancy restaurant. "How can I help you tonight, Miss?" He allowed his eyes travel up and down Daphne's body causing a slight chill to go up her spine.
"I'm supposed to be meeting someone here," Daphne told him tucking a piece of blonde hair behind her ear.
"Do you know the name of your party?"
"Susan Bones."
"Right this way," the man said a disappointed hint to his voice.
Daphne couldn't help but think the wait quite rude as he all but ignored her while leading her to the table where the auburn haired woman sat waiting. Daphne watched as Susan stood up to hug her.
"I'm so glad you came," Susan exclaimed a smile stretching her face. "You look lovely."
Susan's eyes roving over her body didn't bother her as much as the waiter's had. Daphne had picked out her outfit to impress the other girl hoping that maybe her would make a good first impression for her. And that would lead to a second date and maybe more. "Thank you," she replied. "You look lovely too." She pulled the other woman into a hug.
"Shall we sit?"
An awkward silence fell over the table as both women stared at each other. Neither woman knowing what to say first. Daphne was the one to break the ice.
"So I hear you're working at Ministry like your Aunt Amelia did?" she questioned. "How is that going?"
Susan nodded excitedly. "I am," she replied. "It's going really well. I think they hired me on hoping that I'd be just like her and hopefully I can do just as good a job as her."
"You'll do good. I know you will."
Susan smiled over at Daphne. She admired the way that Daphne just gave her hope that she'd be able to do her job effectively. "So what do you do for a living?" she asked watching the grey eyed blonde across from her.
"You're going to find it kind of funny," Daphne told her with a laugh.
"I promise I won't laugh then."
"I'm a professional matchmaker."
"Really?"
"Yeah. I've made matches for almost all of my friends but I have a very hard time making matches for myself. None of the ones that I've tried for me have lasted more than a week or so."
"How did you and I get set up together?"
"I went to a matchmaker." Daphne began to laugh which caused Susan to laugh.
"So the matchmaker went to a matchmaker to get set up on a blind date?"
"Yeah. Sounds like the set up to some joke. Doesn't it?"
Susan nodded as she laughed.
"Are you ladies ready to order?" the waiter who'd been ogling Daphne earlier interrupted them.
"We'll have the baked ziti," both women said not turning from each other. It was the only thing on the menu that seemed basically appetizing to them.

Dinner had gone pretty well and Daphne found herself not wanting the night to end. They'd walked to a nearby playground which had been abandoned for the night hours ago and just sat and talked for hours.
After a little while though Susan and Daphne ended up walking to Daphne's house. Looking up at the symbol of the end of a lovely evening Daphne felt a sense of sadness come over her.
"I had a lovely time," Daphne told Susan hesitantly.
"Me too." Susan smile made a warmth spread through Daphne. One she'd never felt before. "Maybe we could do this again?"
"Yeah. On Saturday?"
"It's a date." Susan pulled Daphne into a goodnight kiss.
Walking through her door Daphne felt her spirits rise. She had finally found her potential partner and she wouldn't waste a minute without her.
I hope you all enjoyed Lovely First Date.
