Author's Note: I just wrote and published a oneshot within the past few hours, and after hopping myself up on coffee and Cap'n Crunch I'm starting on something new.

In light of recent douchebaggery, I'm feeling even more inclined than ever to remind everyone that Final Fantasy XIII is not my creative property. All characters and and even proper nouns included herein are also not my creation. Enjoy.

Three Days: Reflection

Serah clutched her left arm, slumped over on the floor of the Vestige. She was doomed. She had no idea what her Focus was, or how she would find out. She was doomed to eternity as a crystal, if she was lucky. She didn't want to think about what would happen if she wasn't.

"I'm a l'Cie. Enemy of Cocoon." The words she said to her lover, Snow Villiers, only a few days ago made her heart ache. Or did it? Does a l'Cie have a heart? She didn't know.

She had tried everything she could to end their relationship for his safety. She was going to face her fate on her own, whatever that may mean. She planned to discover and complete her Focus alone, or become a Cie'th. She was determined to keep him from suffering a horrible fate as well. She was shocked beyond belief when he refused to leave her, and even more so when he vowed to uncover her Focus and do everything in his power to help her fulfill it. She never ceased to be amazed at how far he would go to show his feelings for her. Even now, she couldn't help but feel awful for the things she said to him that day.

"Will you marry me?" the words Snow spoke to her that night echoed in her mind, clear as the starlit sky. She recalled her eyes welling up with tears when he presented her with a beautiful engagement necklace. Snow had done it again, gone out of his way to cheer her up, and give her the gift of his eternal loyalty. She was never in her life happier, despite the circumstances. The resolve was still there, in his voice; he was going to do everything he could to save her.

Just then, she heard a voice in the distance: "Serah! Your hero's coming!"

"You became a l'Cie and now you're gonna marry this idiot!?" Lightning's words flashed across her mind next. Her sister had never yelled at her like that, save for less harsh instances where she spoke ill of Snow. She had listened to her sister condemn her, her decision to marry Snow, and threaten to end her life. She was entirely betrayed by the woman who had raised her since her parents died. She had never felt more ashamed in her life than she did right then.

"Serah!" She could hear Lightning audibly now, as she arrived to carry her to safety. Snow wasn't far behind, taking her hand and begging her forgiveness.

She could feel an odd transformation taking place within herself and she felt her time growing short, so she left her last wishes with Snow. She was sure this was the end.

Lightning and Snow both fought for her attention with assurances that they would protect her, but she knew it was too late. She uttered her last words before entering her crystal eternity…

"…I'm sorry."
