And if your glass heart should crack
And for a moment you turn back
Oh no. Be strong.
Walk on.
Draco looked beneath him from the cliff, his eyes hardened at the sight of the hills and mountains engulfed by darkness. The dark had always held an eerie fascination for him, and he felt himself smiling as he remembered a time he was afraid of a monster sliding out of the ajar door opening to his bathroom. At night, he would fearfully look around him and stop to stare at the ceiling. Loud, angry voices would creep in from the walls around him and he'd block them out.
He was a child, yet he'd never met another like him in the whole course of his seven year long life. Surrounding him were tall mysterious men, huddled in black capes, with an aura so foreboding around them that Draco never once felt the need to peer into the hollow blackness in front of their hidden faces. Could he tell these people, of the monster in his bathroom, of the skeletons perched in his closet, of the shadows surrounding his small body while he slept?
The hair was blowing cold against his white cheeks, his bony hands reached out before him and grabbed the air, his feet inched forward and he felt the strongest inclination to hurl himself forward. He could smell a premonition. Something bad was surely going to happen, and all the good things in life were suspended. All the beautiful robins and sparrows shot to the sky, higher and higher, as the crows and eagles landed, their sharp beaks leading their way almost. Draco Malfoy, was no longer a child. He had been a boy, he had been a horrible, spoilt boy. But now he was a man. And he couldn't slip and fall, he had to walk.
His hand held a grain of sand now, and he felt it slide down his palm and leave his cold skin. The world seemed not to exist; he was in his High. But the sand slipped out of his fingers and he let go of the force which had brought him away, helped him to escape.
Draco exhaled sharply, his arms fell to his sides limply and his feet moved backwards as he glided away from the edge. His eyes blinked, he snapped awake from his reverie, and stepped back into his life.
