A/N: Random oneshot. First paragraph is what actually happens in the end scene of "Happenstance."

Grissom was reading when Sara came into his office. He looked up as she said,"I heard the guys solved a double murder." Grissom nodded. "Mm-hm."

"I spent the day sitting on a bench outside the courtroom, they never got to me," Sara sighed. "That sucks," Grissom said. Sara peered over the desk to see what he was reading. "Feeling transcendental?" she asked. "Hmm?"

"Thoreau. I, uh, haven't read him since college," Sara admitted. "Me neither," Grissom said as Sara walked towards a shelf. "It holds up. 'I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion.'" Sara picked up a clipboard, examining the crossword puzzle on it. "Oh look," she said, "You missed one. Sixty-three down. 'Misanthrope.'" Grissom looked at Sara as she put the clipboard down. "I won't wait up," she called, heading out the door. Grissom closed his book.

He caught up with Sara as she was walking to the parking lot. "Are you sure you've made a reservation?" she asked. "Yes, worrywart," he replied, reaching out to hold her hand. They headed over to Grissom's car, disabling the alarm and hopping in. As they buckled themselves in, Sara asked, "Why didn't you get 'misanthrope'?" Grissom shrugged. "I don't know," he said. "It's not often you say that." Sara waggled her eyebrows. She continued on. "I know that you know," she laughed. "That 'misanthrope' is 'distruster of the human race'. Sound like anyone you know?" Grissom averted his eyes from the road for a second to look at Sara. Apparently he couldn't think of a good response, and so returned to driving. They chatted for a few minutes about work, complaining about Ecklie, discussing their latest cases, and debating who'd be the first to get IAB'd this year.

They arrived at a small and cozy restaurant, Grissom parking the car into the nearest space. "I know you'll love this place," he said, leaning in closer. "My aunt owns it-we get a discount." Sara slapped him playfully. "Aw, the only reason you brought us here was because it's cheap?" Grissom didn't reply, but instead he put his arm around her.
