She twirled her hair around her index finger while staring at Embry intensely. He shifted nervously on the couch, and her eyes traced his movements before narrowing. Walls groaned and floorboards creaked as a small amount of the pack navigated Sam and Emily's humble house.
"Hey, what's wrong with you?" Paul's blunt yet slightly concerned question only warranted a shifting of eyes to his person. She bit her lip thoughtfully and scrutinized his appearance, ignoring the growl rumbling from the other side of the room. Everyone's attention shifted to Embry's shaking body as other movement in the house ceased, seeming to realize the tension in the tiny living room.
"Embry! Heel!" Her joking only made him glare at her as the shaking continued. She rolled her eyes before explaining, "I was just thinking. It just seems, so… odd…" The female trailed off, staring into the distance as her brows furrowed.
"So odd that you need to check out other guys?" Normally Embry was easygoing, but when it came to his imprint the pack understood that it was a "nature of the beast" sort of situation.
His imprint scoffed and stood up. "Sam! Samuel whatever-the-hell-your-middle-name-is Uley!" The pack stared at her in curiosity and slight consternation, not wanting to bring the damn alpha into this–well, whatever this was. Sam's slow, measured steps led him into the living that felt more and more like a ticking bomb with Embry's continuous shaking and growling coupled with Paul's defensive responses.
Upon his appearance, the female breathed a sigh of relief. "Sam. It is pertinentthat I speak with you!" Curious looks were exchanged as well as answers of "word of the day toilet paper." He raised a brow and nodded as he sized up the anger of his pack mates. "Well, you guys phase when vampires are around, right?" Paul and Embry's shaking lessened somewhat as everyone stared at the girl, wondering if she ever paid attention during the bonfires.
Sam took it all in stride and nodded, "With prolonged exposure, yes, we phase. The number of us is dependent on the amount of vampires nearby."
"Hmm… So, Sam, the Cullens have lived nearby for two years, correct? Then… why did only you, Paul, and Jared only phase immediately?"
Silence.
"… The gene could take a while to activate, depending on your DNA." She hummed and sent him a look that told him she knew he was talking out of his ass.
"Then why didn't Jacob phase?" Silence. "Okay, well, right after the Cullens left, why did Embry phrase?"
"There is no way to stop it once the gene is activated."
"So… Embry, Jacob, and Quil just couldn't help themselves? They had to phase?" Sam gave an unsure nod, wondering where the line of questioning was going. "So when the Cullens returned Seth, Leah, Brady, and Collin–all of their individual genes were suddenly activated? Their genetics demanded they shift after the Cullens returned to Forks?"
Silence.
"I swear, this sounds like it was written by some shitty author who decided to use you guys when she ran out of a plot… Embry, come on, we have a date."
This was just for fun, everyone! Please, no stoning or flaming!
I don't own... anything except the sarcasm and wording.
