A/N: A small idea that suddenly possessed me. I never actually intended to place the two OCs mentioned in the Saiyuki world, but Vienna was the only one who'd bother to record Hakkai's various smiles. Well, enjoy! And of course, I do not own Saiyuki.

Between trying not to get killed by insane yokai assassins and searching for her temperamental guardian, Vienna had decided that she had nothing better to do than to catalogue Hakkai's smiles. Never had she met another person with over 100 different smiles at his disposal. From subtle death threats to gentle encouragements, his use of his various smiles was truly awe inspiring.

It was Gojyo who first found the book after Sahara had collected Vienna from the ikkou. He was rather disturbed that she had managed to catalogue 93 smiles (complete with sketches and musings of other smile possibilities) in a matter of one week, without them noticing. He stopped reading after entry #20, figuring that he knew Hakkai well enough to not read more. No book could surprise him by stating Hakkai probably had well over a 1000 smile variations. It was practically a well-known fact. It was better he had many variations than he not smile at all. An unsmiling Hakkai would give even Sanzo nightmares. That said, Gojyo decided to pretend he had never found the book.

Sanzo came across the book next and was equally, if not more, disturbed than Gojyo. No one should be able to read Hakkai so easily after one mere week. This was Hakkai after all, the master of masking his emotions and the runner up for the position of the King of Denial (with Sanzo as the winner and Gojyo being third. Goku didn't even make it into the running). If she had been able to easily de-mask Hakkai, how easy had he been to figure out?

After reading entry #50, Sanzo decided to stop and save his brain cells for more practical matters.

When Goku stumbled upon the book, he had barely finished entry #1 when he asked, "Hey Hakkai, do you really have over 1000 different smiles?"

"Whatever do you mean Goku?" he replied, equipped with what Sanzo and Gojyo recognized as smile #17: 'Tell-me-who-told-you-that-so-I-can-murder-them'. More frightening was the realization that they had been able to translate the smile before reading the book. Even Goku, who they knew had probably not read more than the first page, could understand that smile.

"It's here, in this book!" He handed said book over quickly, willingly. As Hakkai retreated to read it, a silent agreement was reached by the remaining members. The book would not be mentioned again, and never around Hakkai.

Only Goku was slightly upset by the idea that they would have a nice fire the next time they camped out. After all, he'd only read the first page.
