Uhh, Batman/joker. This is just a drabble I came up with till I had to write it down or die.
The Joke
Bruce was almost asleep, long years of night-time acrobatics making slumber at any time difficult. He didn't mind, if he was awake, he could look. His eyes had been closed, and on opening them, there was nothing but darkness. That was fine, for those seconds he was able to feel. Feel a strong heartbeat in his chest, matched only by the one pressed close to him. It was warm, warmer than you'd expect from such pale skin, but so still it was hard to believe the body beside him was alive.
His eyes finally adjusted, and he stared down in near wonderment at the face below. They had fought in the rain, and the normally pristine cosmetics were gone from the place face. But his skin was still paper-white, his lips blood red, shining in the darkness.
Jack had laughed till he cried when he realised what they were doing, and while that wasn't a surprising state for the villain, Bruce had managed a small chuckle too. This was insane. "What a perfect joke on the city of Gothem!" Jack -Joker- whatever, continued to giggle for most of the night, finally, breathlessly looking up at Bruce and enquiring lightly "Why so serious, Batty?" Bruce had just looked at him. "Oh come on, you know it's funny. You know it. What do you get when you cross a bat with a playing card?"
"… I don't know," murmured the billionaire mechanically. "What do you get?"
"Lust!" This was followed by an explosion of giggles that took minutes to recover from, more so because he'd joined in, unable to help it, seeing the funny side in these twisted events. Maybe Jack was getting too him.
But later that morning, and the many mornings after, when it was time to don a suit and return to his day-job, he looked once more at the face beneath him. The grin was gone in sleep, replaced by an utterly sweet smile.
Batman bit his lip, the joke layed out asleep before him. If the punch line was lust, as the Joker has suggested, then the joke was on Gothem.
If the punch line was love, then the joke was on him.
... Yeah. PLEASE REVIEW! I'd really, really like some opinions on this.
And may we never speak of this again. Nah, it's not that bad, but I think the concept is a little messed up. I haven't been on the Batman archives, so I'll have to check it out. I can't be the first. People just have such fabulously twisted imaginations.
