Chapter One: When I was a Boy
.
"There were dragons when I was boy," a man with greying hair told a small group of children around a campfire. "When we all were young." He gestured to the other adults nearby.
"Where did they go?" A blond haired girl asked curiously.
The man exchanged a dark look with the other adults. "No one knows where the surviving ones went," he said finally. "The rest were killed. Slaughtered like sheep, and used like sheep. Capes made from their hides. Clothing made from their hides. The few surviving ones fled before they could get killed, and to this day, not one has returned."
"Who was killing them?" A boy asked.
"How do you know they were killed?" Another boy questioned.
A blond haired woman with a single braid sat beside the man. "People came here trading the capes and clothes."
The group of ten adults and eight children sat in hushed silence before the women stood and rounded up the children.
"Val! Stoick! Zorona!" The blond woman called. "Off to bed with you three!"
A black haired woman gathered up one. "Smokelout, come on. Tomorrow will bring another campfire."
"Jace," a brunette summoned, "sleep now."
"Come on, Scorpius," a dark haired woman said softly. "Ruffnut, I'll take Scarlette and Kurt. Astrid, I can take Val, Sto, and Rona back, too."
"Thank you, Hazel," Astrid said kindly. "But it's fine if-"
"You have to talk about something. I can tell. Milah, Heather, and I can take the children home for you all," Hazel insisted.
Once Hazel, Milah, and Heather had gone with the children, the man sighed.
"It's your own fault."
The man glared at the other man who had spoken. "I get that, Snotlout. I never should have mentioned the dragons."
"Maybe if you had just lied about your stupid peg leg-!"
"Stop!" Astrid commanded. "It's no one's fault but our's. All of our's. But Hiccup's right. We should never have mentioned dragons. We should have hidden away all evidence of dragons and just forgotten about it." She chewed her lip.
Ruffnut drummed her fingers on a log. "How can you forget that though?"
"Didn't you and Tuffnut forget things on purpose?" Astrid asked incredulously.
"Well, yeah," Tuffnut explained, "but we never really forgot, per say. We were kidding."
A buff looking man rolled his eyes. "Of course you were," he sighed.
"Oh look, it's Eret, son of Eret, he's becoming so smart," Snotlout said mockingly.
Eret huffed and leaned back on the log. "Speak for yourself."
A larger man spoke up, "We should just tell them."
"Fishlegs!" Snotlout exclaimed. "They like the dragons. We liked the dragons. They here us talking about us likening the dragons and riding them, they like us. We don't say a word." He left along with Tuffnut, Ruffnut, Eret, and Fishlegs.
"Do you ever miss them?" Hiccup asked distantly, wrapping himself in a black cape like the night to keep himself warm.
"Sometimes," Astrid replied. "You?"
"All the time."
.
A/N: OMG! Yes! I cannot wait for the third movie to come to theaters. It can't come fast enough. Sadly we have to wait until 2018, but it hopefully will be worth it. This is just what I think should happen.
Right, so the pairings:
Hiccstrid
Ruffnut/Eret
Tuffnut/(O.C.) Milah
Fishlegs/(O.C.) Hazel
Snotlout/Heather
If you have not seen Dragons Riders of Berk, Dragons Defenders of Berk, or Dragons Race to the Edge, you will not know who Heather is. I suggest you YouTube.
