Hollow

The rain washed over the school parking lot. I embraced it, and let myself get soaked.

It felt so good, so refreshing, so... perfect. The whole sidewalk was flooded with at least an inch of rain. I smiled, and watched it run down the sidewalk. I was a junior in highschool, and had joined the orchestra. My friends all told me it was an experience they'd never forget, and they were really excited when I told them I was joining.

I arrived home shortly after I got out of school. My shoes were soaked. I just laughed and kicked them off my wet feet. My mom was standing in the kitchen making dinner. "Is dinner ready yet, Mom?" I asked. "Almost, Rebeka." I sighed. "We will go pick you out an instrument after dinner, ok?" Mom said. I nodded and went to my room. I wasn't sure what instrument I would pick yet. The high pitched violin? The rich-sounding violas? The deep cellos? The majestic base? I had no clue. So far, guitar was the only other instrument I'd played. I had both an electric and acoustic. I had a lot more fun with the electric, though.

After we ate and I had done my homework, we drove to the music shop. It looked really rundown from the outside. I gaped as we walked in. As much as it was rundown on the outside, it was beautiful on the inside! I stood motionless looking at all the instruments hung all over the shop. It was so pretty. Then, a creepy clerk shattered my awe.I looked him over. He was wearing a black vest with a red tie. He had glasses and a big nose. "Can I help you?" he asked, in an annoying tone. "Hi," I said. "I'm looking for an instrument to choose." He smiled mysteriously. "Oh, you don't choose the instrument," he stared at me. I was confused. "The instrument chooses you." A wide grin spread across his face. Now I was scared; and I don't get scared easily. "Rebeka," called my mom. "I'm going to be looking at the sheet music, ok?" I nodded at her."Now," said the clerk. He motioned to the instruments. Shall we try some out?"
