It was a peaceful day in the subconscious planet of Dreamland... with there being a portal from the Mushroom Kingdom there as some of its citizens emerged out of it, with the group being led by Birdo.

"All right, guys! The way to Subcon is this way!" Birdo exclaimed as she noticed several Shy Guys walking after Waddle Dees, who were slowly waddling away.

"But what reason do we have to go back to Subcon?" Toad complained as he picked up a vegetable from the ground, sniffing it as he squinted his eyes. "Haven't we explored that place enough?"

Bowser Junior scoffed as he smacked Toad on the head with his magic paintbrush. "You have, you annoying shroom head, but we haven't! I like to see where Birdo originated from!"

"So do I!" Dixie Kong added as she twirled her blonde hair. "Seeing her play so well in baseball and basketball got me curious as to where she honed those skills! Plus, a dream world? Sounds fun to me!"

"But aren't you all here in a dream world right now?" Meta Knight commented as he approached the group of characters, revealing his bright yellow sword. "Doesn't it seem strange since you're already in a realm of fantasy?"

"Technically, you're correct." Birdo said as she adjusted her red bow. "...but I haven't seen Subcon in decades. A visit wouldn't be so bad."

"Then I will tag along with you, just to see what's there that Popstar doesn't offer," Meta Knight added as he joined the group, the five now heading westward as Birdo found a magic lamp lying around, using it to summon a red door as they all entered it, spotting a nearby vase.

Birdo was the one to point out that there wasn't much time, with the pink dinosaur going right into the vase as Toad quickly followed her in. Bowser Jr., Dixie, and Meta Knight glanced at each other and shrugged as they all jumped into the vase, just in time as the subspace vanished into thin air, as if it was never there in the first place.

"So, this is Subcon?" Dixie asked while looking around.

"Yeah, and I must admit... it's been quite a while since I've last been here."

"If you say as you instruct, then why do you seem nervous about it?"

"Whoever said I was acting nervous?" Birdo spat back as she lowered her eyelids while folding her pink dinosaur arms together. "...It's just been a while since I was last here, that's all..."

"Ha! Look at those stupid birds with those dumb masks bouncing along the Shy Guys!" Bowser Jr. taunted as he pointed at the annoying Tweester birds hanging with the different colored Shy Guys.

"Ugh, I'm getting flashbacks having to deal with those annoying peckers..." Toad shivered as he shook his head.

"Do you need me to take care of it?" Meta Knight asked as he brandished his sword.
