Mark loved Mimi, no..not like that, Mark loved Mimi because..because she came to their door on Christmas Eve, asking for Roger to light her candle.
Mark loved Mimi because the very next day, she wrote on their frosted window, asking Roger out on a date.
Mark loved Mimi because..because for the first time in over a year, he saw the fire in Roger's eyes, instead of the emotionless orbs that they usually were.
Mark loved Mimi because she got Roger out of the apartment.
Mark loved Mimi because when they came stumbling back into the cafe kissing and giggling like teenagers, Mark saw Roger smile.
Mark loves Mimi because she saved Roger,
She gave Mark his Roger back. And for that he would forever be thankful for her.
He supposes he loves her in the same way he loves Joanne..Joanne, whom Maureen left him for, Joanne who had made his Maureen happy...well, she's not really 'his Maureen' anymore..but still.
Of course, it's not like his chest doesn't tighten everytime he see Joanne and Maureen kissing and holding each other..it's not like it doesn't hurt, it does, but this kind of pain Mark has decided, he can live with it.
And as much he loves them both, he still envies them. Mark wishes he could've done everything for Roger as Mimi does, but he can't.
Mark wishes he could've done everything that Joanne does for Maureen, but he can't.
And he never will..but right now, as he walks through the door to the loft, he sees Roger and Mimi curled together asleep on the couch, Roger is smiling in his sleep. That goofy smile that Mark has fallen in love with..he can live with this kind of pain..
Author's Note: So, I'm currently in love with the movie/musical RENT. It's so good, and I so ship Roger/Mark, though I don't hate Roger/Mimi, I actually think they're really cute. So this is basically how I think Mark views Mimi and Joanne and their relationships with Roger and Maureen. So I hope you enjoyed :)
